@RobGMacfarlane You should definitely devote a few paragraphs to it; very important concept. I was only introduced to the idea last year in J.B. MacKinnon's "The Once and Future World", and though I had never heard of it before, it IMMEDIATELY had a profound impact on how I view ecology.

Off to a Sizzling Start @zerocarbon on how we have just experienced a 12-month period of more than 1.5 C, five of the deadliest wildfires in the planet have occurred this year, the most recent took over a hundred lives in Chile last week with hundreds still missing. 70 per cent of Canada is currently classified as “Abnormally Dry” or in “Moderate to Exceptional Drought,” including 81 per cent of agricultural lands. In a ray of hope, Europe got more electricity from wind than from gas last year. nationalobserver.com/newsletters/ze…

Prairie premiers weaponizing winter. Excellent weekly climate news roundup from ⁦@zerocarbon⁩, with a feature on how the rhetoric of “new denial” seeks to “undermine confidence in solutions to climate change” and the credibility of experts. nationalobserver.com/newsletters/ze…

@CJusticeVic @zerocarbon These meat-eaters keep saying "wake-up call" but are loth to give up their obscene fondness for #meat, which is the single most effective personal step to decrease emissions, with no conceivable incidental harm or loss. They deceive themselves and others. #Climateemergency #CH4

There is a ton of misinformation in my replies so here is a primer on permafrost carbon. Permafrost stores a HUGE amount of carbon because ancient life took up CO2, built biomass, then died. That organic matter (~50% C) slowly accrued in Earth's best freezer for 1000s of yrs. 1/

Heat pumps are "as close to magic as things get in the climate world" and "they’re outlandishly, even perplexingly, efficient". Well said @zerocarbon @NatObserver! And honoured to be called "one of Europe’s heat pump gurus" 😄 nationalobserver.com/newsletters/ze…
