If a deal is struck to end the Iranian conflict because it is believed that the Strait of Hormuz cannot be protected from Iranian terrorism and Iran still possesses the capability to destroy major Gulf oil infrastructure, then Iran will be perceived as being a dominate force requiring a diplomatic solution. This combination of Iran being perceived as having the ability to terrorize the Strait in perpetuity and the ability the inflict massive damage to Gulf oil infrastructure is a major shift of the balance of power in the region and over time will be a nightmare for Israel. Also, it makes one wonder why the war started to begin with if these perceptions are accurate. I personally am a skeptic of the idea that Iran cannot be denied the ability to terrorize the Strait and the region cannot protect itself against Iranian military capability. It is important we get this right.

The Trump administration’s focus on “highly enriched uranium” is incorrect.
Uranium enrichment is not linear:
3.67% enriched uranium gets you 70% of the way to weapons-grade.
20% gets you about 90% there.
60% gets you about 96% there.
Iran has substantial quantities of enriched material at all these levels.
Any deal that leaves Iran with any enriched uranium is a bad deal. Iran can easily enrich its remaining material to weapons-grade.
Any deal that leaves its nuclear facilities intact is a bad deal. Iran can easily use these facilities for further enrichment and weaponization.
If these are the contours of a new Iran deal, it may end up even worse than the JCPOA. Let’s hope that’s not where this is heading after everything that has been accomplished in the past year.

Andrea Berta can make whatever decisions he wants this summer, but selling Leandro Trossard should not be one of them. He remains an important player whose productivity is strongest when his game time is managed properly. Although the left wing position still needs strengthening, Trossard deserves to stay for one more season before leaving on a free transfer in the summer of 2027.
