An earthquake in a remote, uninhabited area? NISAR is on the case! On Dec. 6, 2025, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the Yukon-Alaska border, triggering hundreds of landslides and avalanches. @NASAJPL scientists are using NISAR imagery to study the quake’s impact.

@NASAJPL These images show the area before the earthquake and after, when slides deposited rock, snow, and other debris across the icy surface. The roughest areas—those with the most debris—are dark green in these NISAR images. Smooth areas with little debris appear purple.
