Jawad Ali Ahmed. A child from Hay el-Sellom, one of the poorest areas of Dahyeh. He was killed on Black Wednesday & remained under the rubble for four days, as others were given priority. But this is also one of the two boys whose photos once went viral as they cheered for the Pope & their Christian countrymen during his visit to Lebanon in November 2025. At the time, Jawad used a typical Lebanese expression when referring to the cross, one that does not translate literally but conveys deep affection and respect. In essence, what he meant was: “I’d give my life for you… my respect to all religions.” A Shiite child, from a marginalized area, raised not on hatred but on acceptance. In life, he cheered for others. In death, he was left waiting.

Pope Leo XIV gave a very beautiful speech to leaders from the Chaldean Church today, speaking on the situation in the Middle East for Christians Ironically one piece from that speech instructed the leaders to be 'responsible in your use of the mass media , and prudent in your public statements, so that every word and action contributes to building—and not harming—ecclesial communion and the Church's witness' This use of X is in strong contrast to the very impressive use of Instagram by the pope's team On Insta, the medium is used as it is intended to be, with absolutely stunning recent photos showing Pope Leo XIV lighting a candle at the Easter Vigil, carrying the Cross on Good Friday at the Colosseum and looking cheery waving to Saint Peter's Each of these is accompanied by a VERY short quote from the day's speech, which it is impossible to quote out of context because they speak for themselves The posts are practical, beautiful and a good reflection of what the pope has spoken about on that day. They get HUGE numbers of likes and reposts and comments, because people ate genuinely uplifted by the content. It would be prudent of the pope's social media team to take a similar approach to X, instead of repeating what had became an increasingly counter productive medium under his predecessor and which is now defeating the purpose of its existence for Leo also.
