Poor though the escort numbers are, we can surmise that in an emergency several more could be made available at short notice.
However with their continuing appalling availability status, it is difficult to see how the SSN crews can be maintaining any sort of operational currency.

The reason this passes for news - beyond the Mail’s love of clickbait - is that the naval knowledge of the country (and its media) is now so low that most people don’t know that all warships get loads of OPDEFs all the time.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary seafarers keep our Navy supplied and operational. ⛴️ They deserve fair pay, decent conditions, and certainty about the future. We rely on them, the Government must deliver for them. I’ll keep pushing until they get the support they deserve. @RMTunion
