@DomPasset @educationgovuk I am shocked your private school have not already begun the EHCNA process. If a child’s needs require an EHCP in maintained school it would have been done for you. Ask your school to support, you should not need to battle it.

@gfreeman2012 Garry, we would be keen to get some advice from you and would welcome at least a 1 day visit to support our school. I understand there will be a cost. I would appreciate initial contact through office@arunside.school thank you.

I receive SO many requests for advice on what to do with LAs who are openly defying the law in a confrontational way. So many and so complex I may well need to charge a small fee. How about getting me in to deliver a SEND Law and Funding day and provide resources?

@ICT_MrP I also worry that yet again it is up to schools to solve all society problems. Government need to recognise that families need more agencies/ resource/ support , with the right experience to help them properly. Schools are used as a sticking plaster too often.

One of the first questions I posed to @bridgetphillipsonmp was around the growing levels of child poverty and the knock on impact that has on schools. You can listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts.

@ICT_MrP I worry about this policy. I whole heartedly agree with the ideology. But, if it’s funded in the same way as UFSM, through census it will put more strain on budgets. Further, where will they be located? Is teacher giving up their classroom, so they can’t prepare for the day?

@DavidNautilus1 You are right about an unfair system. However, what about Family C who can never afford to go on holiday , but constantly have their learning disrupted because their teacher is supporting Family A and B to catch up when they come back?

Family A goes on holiday in term time to Spain. This family has 3 holidays per year. Both parents are together, with decent earnings, off-setting the cost of the fine. Both are able to pay within the time period. Family A can afford holidays outside of term time. Family B goes on holiday in term time to a caravan. These children have never had a holiday. Mum and Dad are not together. One estranged parent is not involved in the holiday and unexpectedly receives a fine. This family does not have any income other than benefits. Either or both parents are unable to pay the fine and so it quickly escalates. Family B cannot afford a holiday out of term time. This is my experience of this system. This is not a judgement of family A or B. A very difficult policy to uphold when you’re working hard to support the poorest families and communities. bbc.co.uk/news/education…

@GillianKeegan And is education not a good use of tax payer’s money Gillian?

And how would they pay for these pledges? 💷 They would add VAT to private school fees, taxing aspiration & putting pressure on state schools But experts say that this would only raise a fraction of the £1.6bn figure they've calculated & may even cost the taxpayer money 3/9

Today, Labour are talking about recruiting more teachers, but what's their record? Since 2010 in Labour-run Wales, teacher numbers have fallen while numbers in Conservative-run England have risen by over 27,000 🧵THREAD: Labour are all talk and no substance 🥀👇 1/9

@GillianKeegan But it's not fully funded is it? As you well know. The first 4% is fully funded the rest is to be found from existing budgets. 2.5% to be found by schools.

I'm glad that all teaching unions have now called off planned strike action. Our fully-funded 6.5% pay award is the largest in over 30 years and allows us to work together to give our children the best education possible. 1/2

@joie_nouvelle @gazzawesty @GillianKeegan Hate to say it, but it’s true. Already not replacing a full time SEND specialist to try to balance the books, more cuts in support staff to come. 😢😢

@GillianKeegan Please stop saying it’s fully funded! You are lying! As for wanting schools to have more support staff, I’ll be cutting back due to more funding shortages.

I'll continue to work closely with unions on issues that matter to teachers, including through our Workload Reduction Taskforce to explore how we can go further to support school and trust leaders with workloads. This will put an end to disruption for parents and pupils. 2/2

You CAN be an engineer! 👷‍♀️🦾🔧 We were at @CanterburyCCUni yesterday for our South East England awards and exhibition. 2 fab Prototypes from @CanterburyCCUni and @ThalesUK were unveiled too! They were inspired by designs from 2 pupils at @Arunside last year 👏

@Headteacherchat Whilst I completely sympathise with this. I am fed up with it being schools that make the adjustment. How about travel companies and holiday destinations supporting and making adjustments too.

Anon post: Would you authorise a holiday in term time for a child with a sibling with severe learning difficulties? Parents say quieter environment better for disabled child. Any advice gratefully received.

Anon post: My school has sent out an email to us asking if we would like to do an NPQ? I am finishing my ECT year and have received consistent great feedback in all observations… is 23 too young to start or ask to do a NPQ . I don’t want to look like I am big headed or anything like that?
