#IranianCulturalSites Let’s tweet storm our favourite Iranian cultural sites: Here’s my paternal hometown Kashan.. I loved the impromptu mini-concert taking advantage of the great acoustical elements courtesy of our incomparable architecture:

I'm old enough to remember allegations against the US media like this being sounded during the Vietnam war by pro-war advocates. It is not the job of the media to parrot the administration's line. That would be propaganda. The media reports the truth, and the truth, uncomfortable as it may be for some who supported the military intervention, is that it does not appear to be going to plan. Whatever that plan was, that is.

One thing disgusts me the most: when I see people who claim that Iran matters to them, yet while it is under fire, while it is in pain, they organise New Year gatherings, they drink, they remain cheerful. They are not living Iran: for them, Iran is merely background noise, something they can easily switch off. Whatever they choose to be is their own decision. But what fills me with deep disgust is that they still ask me to join their celebrations. I may appear calm, but I do not belong to your group. I cannot celebrate while I am in pain. It is not them I am disgusted by: it is the audacity of asking me, of seeing me as someone who could stand where they stand. No. I will not stand among you. May I die the day I celebrate while my land is under fire. Thank you for your invitation. My answer is NO.
Shabnam Shabani@ShabnamShabani

There are many to blame for the days we are witnessing. I cannot stop asking myself one question: did I do everything I could have done to prevent this? And I am suffering under the rubble of this question’s weight. May Iran be protected from darkness, mistakes, incompetence, cruelty, and ignorance.

BREAKING : Spanish 🇪🇸 PM Pedro Sánchez roars against Trump in Parliament "Trump is someone who will set the world on fire & then blame smoke caused by that. He has been wrong for 18 days of war. I urge everyone to call him out" 🔥 Sánchez earned RESPECT for courage 🫡

This delusional, power-hungry man-child is so desperate he’s trying to hijack people’s everyday traditions and rebrand them as loyalty rituals to himself. Everyone celebrates Charshambe Suri. Everyone visits graves on the last Friday of the year. These are communal, cultural practices—not endorsements. What’s next—telling people to celebrate Christmas and claiming it as his political victory? It’s pathetic. Transparent. And honestly, insulting to anyone with a functioning brain.

BIG: There were two actors which secretly labored behind the scenes to facilitate Iran-US deal; @guardian yesterday revealed the British role—today @amwajmedia can divulge who brought in the UK and partnered with it, along with details on what precisely Powell did in Geneva. Probably most detailed account of the talks out there, built on interviews with both Arab and Iranian sources. The story reflects utter consternation among virtually everyone involved when Trump suddenly decided to bomb instead of working with what the Iranians put on the table. 48 hours before the US bombed Iran, Kushner/Witkoff agreed on holding one more final session while joking with Iranian negotiators about how Trump bought their shoes for them on sale at Florsheim:

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

This @FT report is among the best I’ve seen on Saudi Arabia during this conflict. It captures the nuances of the Saudi-Iran relationship, the detente, and the tensions and questions around this war extremely well👇great reporting as usual from @ahmed @cornishft ft.com/content/272194…

You can call it what you may, but “cowardly” ain’t it.. however, allowing your lands to be used as launching pads for strikes on schools (killing 168 children), hospitals (killing infants in incubators) and civilian infrastructure, and then gaslighting with “independent of how it began” without one word of remorse for the innocents—is in fact just that.

I grew up with Reem Al Hashimi (nee Ramy Redha).. she was just as calm, beautifully articulate, and exceptionally intelligent then as she seems in this video— and given her position I am not surprised why she’s sticking to the narrative of blaming Iran.. and no one else— however..it’s incredibly frustrating and disingenuous that she says “independent of who started this” as if she’s talking about kids fighting in a playground.. Let me tell you an anecdote about Ramy.. in the early 90s I asked her how does she justify her country not allowing land ownership by people who’ve lived there for decades like my parents (back then we foreigners couldn’t own land)— her response was that UAE does not want its lands to be usurped by foreigners just as Palestine has been by Israel.. today however she has absolutely nothing to say about Israel’s gluttony and terrorism in the region.. politics is truly disgusting..
Drop Site@DropSiteNews

🎙️ UAE Minister for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy: “It’s been pretty unprecedented what’s happened and almost unhinged, I would say, to have Iran lash out… it’s really quite surprising for us that Iran has taken such an irrational path to fight the Gulf states and act in this quite unlawful, quite unacceptable manner.” 🎙️ ABC Australia Interviewer: “It was however the U.S. and Israel who started this conflict. What’s your message to them?” 🎙️ UAE Minister: “Independent of how this began, the retaliatory measures that Iran has taken to attack the Gulf states is really where the issue we have is.”

@absatou I hear you.. my last contact with her was handwritten mail letters sent between us after we went our separate ways to universities— yes it was before emails/social media. I also don’t feel any need for loyalty 20 years later. Plus she’s a HH.. not particularly reachable. 😆

@AtiehS Maybe it’s just me, but I find it disloyal to speak publicly against someone you know personally. Anybody else giving their opinion is fair game. But you’ve grown up with the person talk to them in private …
