My open letter to @RachelReevesMP (cc @Ofcom, @SciTechgovuk) Now O2 has broken the taboo, the big risk is other firms will likely follow suit... the govt must step in to stop mobile, broadband and pay-TV firms increasing prices mid contract by MORE than they said they would when people sign up.

VALOUR — £50 MILLION to create the first government structure to support Veterans. I came into Government wanting to deliver change, more change than I could have delivered as a Brigadier in the Military. The last couple of weeks have proven that with laser focus, the right people and team, and with the political will and support of the PM and Defence Secretary we can deliver actual change. Last week was a big one for the Veterans’ community. It was fitting that alongside the nation’s celebration of the sacrifice and unyielding spirit of our country’s WWII veterans, we should announce VALOUR — this Government’s pledge (for the first time) to take responsibility for our Veterans. VALOUR is the result of seven months of hard work. We are creating an institutionally resilient structure— a support system for the whole Veterans community. The proof will be in the delivery and we will be working with Veterans, their charities and the Armed Forces community to make sure we get this right. The first wave of announcements include: - VALOUR Support system for Veterans = £50m. - Training for NHS staff to meet the unique requirements for Veterans = £1.8m. - Veterans Housing grants = £4.5m (to refurbish and build social housing for veterans) These are the first steps to taking responsibility for those who have given so much, and to whom we all owe so much. The career change was worth it, a bias for action and for meaningful change. Proud to be British! Proud to be a Veteran. More to come.

📢 Final April Price Cap Prediction Cornwall Insight have released our final April - June 2025 price cap prediction. We are forecasting energy bills will be £1,823 a year for a typical dual fuel consumer. This would represent a 5% increase compared to the January price cap. Read our full release here: bit.ly/3CKexMT Breakdown: Standing Charge (£/day): Elec-0.53, Gas-0.29 Unit Costs (p/kWh): Elec-26.57, Gas-7.00 The increase in bills has been anticipated for some time, as a volatile international market saw prices rise, however the cap forecast has risen in recent weeks as the combination of colder weather and reduced renewables production saw gas storage levels fall across Europe, resulting in wholesale prices rising sharply. Uncertainty over the outlook for the April cap and beyond is also being compounded by a number of Ofgem consultations on its future structure. Looking ahead, the announcement of talks between Russian and American officials aimed at ending the Ukraine conflict have seen gas prices fall, and while this has come too late to affect the April cap, the effects are being seen from July 2025 onwards, with prices expected to fall slightly in the third quarter of the year, before rising again in October.
