🎈HELIUM SCARCITY… Hospitals worldwide perform millions of MRI scans, making MRI the single largest consumer of liquid helium (often cited as 15–30% of global demand). While MRI is usually closed loop—MRIs need to be refilled with helium over time (just like Freon leaks from air conditioners over time). Helium cannot be made—only extracted, & any loss is permanent. However, Iran just destroyed a $20 billion Qatar refinery, & the Strait of Hormuz is blocked. Helium also needed in quantum technologies. Helium already scarce. Helium shortages can delay scans, raise costs, or force prioritization of urgent cases. In respiratory: Heliox (a helium-oxygen mixture) reduces airway turbulence, easing breathing in conditions like severe asthma, croup, or upper airway obstruction. It is delivered via masks or ventilators and is particularly useful in pediatrics or emergencies, and there is no substitute for helium in Heliox. All this will not be good if we suffer an even greater shortage of helium / price spike of helium if the Iran conflict continues.

It is unacceptable that one hospital #UHL has almost as many patients on trolleys as the seven listed below. @CarrollJennifer needs to resign.

The new hospital won't be another ED which is what the region needs. It's easy to be flippant when you don't know what's going on here.

A Senator has said a landlord evicting nine elderly and sick residents from a retirement village - one of whom has dementia - is the “lowest of the low”. The properties are located in the Sonas Retirement Village in County Sligo and owned by Nasso BK Holdings Ltd. The tenants of six properties have received eviction notices in November, demanding that they vacate their homes by June. Senator Nessa Cosgrove said she recently met with two of the residents facing eviction, Elizabeth and Frank Stewart. Both are in their 80s and Frank is a wheelchair user who has dementia. “They moved into this retirement village in good faith that they would be spending the rest of their years there,” she explained. “They sold their own house a number of years ago, but felt that they were too old to buy a new house. “So, they decided to rent and so it was set up for their needs. It's all on the ground level. “But they're being evicted into homelessness.” The Stewarts’ son, David, also lives in the retirement village with them.
