How would you rate the value your teacher union provides to you as an educator?

Sixteen years ago, one man stood alone on a grassy hill at a music festival in Washington State, USA, and started dancing by himself. People glanced over and looked away. Some laughed. His roommate leaned in and warned him people were filming him. He did not stop. Then one stranger got up and joined him. Then another. Then the hillside tipped. Within minutes, hundreds of people were sprinting from across the field to be part of something that, thirty seconds earlier, had been one man being laughed at in a field. Someone filming from higher up the hill said quietly: "See what one man can do. One man can change the world." The clip spread across the internet in 2009. Entrepreneur Derek Sivers played it at a TED conference to explain how movements actually begin. Not with the first person brave enough to start, he argued, but with the first person willing to join them. Collin Wynter, the man dancing alone, later said he had no idea he had done anything special. He was just tired of watching everyone sit still.

@ThrillaRilla369 I would but I’ve never trusted a man enough to depend on him for a sole income. That’s giving someone too much control.

Food just doesn’t taste the same. I haven’t eaten Popeyes in so long. Subway taste different. I’m no longer eating McDonald’s. No more pringles. No more Oreos and even hersheys kisses seem different. Anybody else notice this?

One roadblock to school improvement is the inability to fire bad teachers for the (absolutely founded) fear that they will be unable to replace them at all, let alone with a good teacher.

@tchrscurriculum The other part of this includes some uncomfortable conversations that move underperforming teachers either out of the classroom or in a different content area or grade level. This is where leadership skills in principals are truly tested.

For any great district-wide shifts in academic outcomes to occur, school boards and superintendents must have the urgency and audacity to go all-in on hiring great principals and teachers. For any real change that lasts it takes great people, and it takes District leadership that is willing to do what it takes to recruit, reward, and retain those people!

During an ordinary school day, a student notices his teacher behaving strangely pacing nervously, fidgeting, and glancing around anxiously. The signs remind him of something he’s witnessed at home, and a sense of dread sets in. Realizing something is seriously wrong, he decides he can’t keep silent and must alert someone.

Give me a strong principal and a group of strong teachers and our own built curriculum and we will outperform any boxed curriculum. Every time.

Serious post: After the NSCS I felt myself slipping into a depressive state; this included not doing great at school and being irritable to those around me, or having bad mood swings. But, I opened up about what was happening to trusted adults; and I’m learning how to be better🧵

@S_Oberle I have now taught two semesters of seniors in college seeking a Bachelors in EC Education. Let’s just say 1/10 of them actually care to put in any work. Do I think teachers should have to put in so many hours “unpaid” hours ? NO but the reality is that it is essential.

If you work with teacher candidates, student teachers, whatever we are calling them these days…tell them they need to take initiative in the classroom and not just do the bare minimum. We are seeing a terrible lack of ambition and work ethic in these future teachers.

SPREAD THE WORD, SAVE THE PALUXY RIVER! Sailfish Development is planning a 2600 acre data center near the town of Tolar TX; this data center would destroy native plants, restrain already drained water sources, and pollute the ecologically important Paluxy River. Petition in reply

@tchrscurriculum @RAD_is_awesome I’d be glad to! I’ve been teaching for 20 years and have a masters in curriculum and instruction in science education. The problem is that I’d like to get paid for the time it takes. ♥️

The vendors of Popular and Expensive Canned Curriculum have assured your administrative team that the reason we aren't seeing the promised results is because the teachers aren't implementing the curriculum correctly.

When working with your PLT in your PLC on your PBLs, make sure to include your assessment plan that synergizes the SEL components with your CLTs and PBIS reward system as a reflection of the ELSRs to maximize academic rigor and student engagement.
