My games that I played on Steam in 2025. Like last year I'm going to pick my favourite 5 games from what I first played this year, listed in playtime order (no bearing on quality): 1. Umamusume: Pretty Derby 2. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 3. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds 4. Tunic 5. Beyond Citadel One common theme of all of these games is that they were all sleeper hits for me and pretty much surpassed my expectations (I played E33 on release before it mega blew up). So to address the domineering game in the room. Umamusume is a very easy game to leave running in the background and I don't have a problem ok? We clear? Joking aside the game is very fun, but a good 1/3 - 1/2 of the playtime probably is the game running idle while I'm at work. Some honourable mentions of the lesser known games would be: - Crow Country - Alisa - Labyrinth of the Demon King All small scale indie horror games that I enjoyed a lot and more people should try out. Devil May Cry and Atelier Rorona are games I played years ago, just not on steam. Fantastic games obviously, but not the first time I played them so they don't count here. Rogue Trader and Star Ocean 2 are a couple of games I need to get back to. Both were pretty great, but I ended up getting distracted from them, so I never finished either. Now both are sat in the infinite backlog. To close out, looking back on these games, they're all pretty damn good to be honest. A grand majority of these games are worth looking at if any look interesting at a glance.

@Frozen_Frog_8 What? Why? That seems crazy. The game is right there and everything. Is it licensing or something similar?

@Pirat_Nation I've seen some screenshots and video clips where it does look good, but realism doesn't always mean better. Handcrafted lighting is an art in and of itself. If Path Tracing here is going to be hit and miss this much, then I'd rather just leave it off.

Pragmata Path Tracing is getting backlash because it actually looks better without it, not to mention it will double your FPS. According to most people, it looks generic and soulless.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 received a mysterious 77 GB update on SteamDB today, so people think it’s a DLC or an expansion. The new depot appeared briefly and was much larger than the game’s 65 GB base install. Then was removed and replaced with tiny placeholder files. They could be doing internal testing for new content. Capcom has not commented.

@araisan49 @bee_fumo It's a shame you see it that way. Personally, I think the current Japanese sentiment I've seen around this, stifles games and creators rather than helping them.

It depends what you mean by justification. Some people will just pirate because they can, in the same way some people will just steal. But the amount of these people is actually quite low. Far lower than you think. The majority of pirates mainly fall into the camp of potential customers but have no way of accessing the product or game officially in a playable state. Their justification is it's the only way to engage with the game. Which is a fair justification, especially when even with this piracy the people may still become fans (if they like it) and support the game or creator in the other ways they can. This can be by buying merchandise, or spreading the word about the game and increasing it's popularity, which may actually increase the likelihood of an official version being released overseas. Another justification would be preservation. Which is the main thing that kicked off this entire debate. If a game is being made unavailable, then I do think it is valid for fans to at least keep the game playable in some state. The official company pays no extra costs and it keeps the game available for anyone who wishes to engage with it. I don't see any downside with this. Personally if companies worked with fans, rather than trying to be antagonistic in a lot of cases, everyone would benefit more.

Because his solution works. Make the official version easy to buy, and a better service than what you'd get from pirating it. It's how Steam became the juggernaut it is today. When a pirated version turns out to be better than the one you have to pay for, then something has gone wrong on the company side. This is what causes piracy to rise, it makes paying customers feel like they're getting ripped off in some way. I think what a lot of Japanese people need to realise is that people do actually want to buy stuff from you. The fact that there may be a pirated version only matters if the service is terrible from the official version.

So do Japanese fans think that as soon as a pirated version of a game exists, that all revenue drops to 0 or something? This honestly feels like rehashing old arguments that the Western world has largely solved at this point.

@araisan49 @bee_fumo Gabe Newell done far more to solve piracy than you or Japan's current methods ever will. He has actively lowered "thievery". This just shows your ignorance.

@bee_fumo Heads up- the subtitles disappear from 2:09 and onward. Still a great video about piracy and it's causes and solutions. This mentality is why Steam is what it is today.

The piracy debate between the West and Japan is pretty infuriating to see tbh. In terms of pragmatism, if people want a game/digital product, the vast majority of people will buy it if it's easily available and not insanely over priced. It's why the success of Steam actually reduced piracy. As a side note for emulation, if companies just sold the roms themselves, that would pretty much cut down on *a lot* of piracy for older games too. In terms of moral arguments? The law isn't moral. So trying to cite Copyright Law in the case for morality is a dead end argument. Corporations (and Governments) aren't moral entities and no way should ever be cited for morality. That's incredibly short sighted. I'm sorry, but I'm firmly against the Japanese argument here. Piracy is a service problem, and companies are not moral stewards.

@_rawrell Most modern "fans" of anything don't actually care about whatever medium they're a fan of. They just want to be a part of the "in" thing. Just look at the amount of slop posts you see about anything popular nowadays. Signaling they like the "in" thing.

Crowbcat is getting cooked (again) but he's right about RE4R. Remake fans don't want games, they want "cinematic experiences" with mindless gameplay they can easily go through so they can watch the cutscenes and tell their twitter friends how they played the trendy new thing.

Support for the unborn goes both ways. Abortion should be abolished. At the same time, it should be illegal to leave your partner if you find out she’s pregnant. Face the consequences of your actions.

@JamesCanaryII @ShitpostRock2 I was running with my standard Greatsword character and never ran into much trouble going through the game, but then again I never finished it, so the later bosses could've been much harder. The ER bosses were very noticeable with input reading though.

@ClockworkStatue @ShitpostRock2 With DS and BB it’s a hard but fair fight, losing is just a skill issue, and the fights feel rewarding because you know it was fair. With ER it’s just back to back BS that kills you so by the end, you hate them. 100%’d it twice but it wasn’t pleasant, and gave up on DLC

@SchrodingersFav @ShitpostRock2 >something just felt missing and i got so bored It's the level design that was missing. The open world is largely a waste of time that barely adds anything. Everything that FromSoft did with the open world, they've done much better with their previous interconnected worlds.
