How were they able to do this? They got their preferred tiebreaker on the commission: Retired NJ SC Justice John Wallace, an appointee of former Gov Jim McGreevy (D). Wallace’s logic for choosing the Dem map: Rs got their preferred map last decade. While this reasoning prompted skepticism, the NJ SC ultimately allowed the map to proceed.
