@ConstantQay @tparsi Iran is sanctioned. Average incomes in Iran are affected by this, not by "poor" as some kinda natural condition. Actually, Iranians are wealthy & consistently rank in the top 5-10 of the 350 or so demographic groups in the US for highest average household income.

A US pilot rescued after being shot down over Iran described a shocking sight before ejecting from his aircraft: multiple Iranian drones hovering in the air, moving as one, in a formation that resembled a jellyfish. If the airman really saw what he described — a formation moving in unison — it would be an alarming advance in Iranian drone capabilities. "Multiple drones interconnected and moving as one with smaller drones below the bigger drones like legs,” one of the sources familiar with the pilot’s witness account told CNN. “Real alien sh*t.” cnn.com/2026/06/23/pol…

Norway was recently ranked the 6th happiest country on Earth. After some of their people spent the day at CitiField watching the Mets, they now rank 19th. 🇳🇴😢

@ConstantQay @tparsi Idgaf about ayatollahs lol but it's funny you guys think killing a geriatric man who wanted to be martyred is a win even after it created the perfect conditions to let his son assume power.

@tparsi Everything technological that isn't American or European in origin is "aliens" to these people. Fucking Hollywood lol the pilot probably imagined Iranians riding camels & launching rocks from slings before he got BTFO by sophisticated drones.

@AlternateTimel2 @girlbosswoman Meh. Ghengis Khan despised cities and the Mongols were going to genocide northern China until a Chinese official convinced them to turn it into a tax base. Not all but some Mongols were just in it for the love of the game.

@girlbosswoman GRRM writes nomads so bad it’s a caricature—he makes the Dothraki shun pastoralism and practice economic parasitism. But nomads irl were nomads not because they wanted to rape/pillage but bc they were shepherds who had to constantly move for their animals to graze land

Westeros is such a weird place. Art, clothing, culture-wise, they are 12th-14th century Europe. But warfare, economics, and cities are all 16th-18th century (just no gunpowder). And the way people talk, behave, their morals, etc., are all late 20th century.

@bog_beef The US lost WW2 to Japan. Look at how it turned out for both countries after. The US never “won” another war. Japan has remained in peace and prosperity. Who really “won?” The US cursed itself by burning Tokyo and nuking Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Totally demonic.

If you ever had the chance to talk to Americans that lived through WW2 there were two glaringly obvious conclusions -uncomfortable, Balkan level hatred of Japanese -European theater minimized or defined by GIs enjoying occupation. Fraulein, chocolates, a Luger with luck

Alex Freeman is only 21 years old and understandably, he was nervous before the USMNT’s game against Paraguay. He reveals what Christian Pulisic told him to ease the nerves. “We were in the huddle,” Freeman told U.S. Soccer YouTube channel. “Christian was like, ‘You know, we're all nervous, right? Get through the first five minutes.’ “And when he said that, it was kind of one of those moments where you realize we all have the nerves, right? “But we're getting through this together, knowing that at the end of the day, we're a team and we got to have each other's back. “And I think when we all went into that game thinking in that way, I feel like it made us stronger as well. “Knowing that whatever we did and whatever plays we made, whatever mistakes we made, that we always had each other's back. “And I think that made it so easy for us to kind of do our own thing and play our game.” The USMNT have made a great start to the World Cup, winning both games and scoring six goals. Freeman is also playing well, scoring in the game against Australia.

Reading some POW accounts of WW2 in the Pacific theater really puts to bed the theory that Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren't necessary. Japan had about 150,000 Allied POWs in camps, had already murdered half of Americans captured, and had standing "kill-all" orders set to be executed just days after the bombings completely changed the legal and military landscape. The older I get, the more I read, and the more I realize that most people with isolationist and overly pacificist ideologies on foreign policy are just ignorant.

@Noahpinion I feel like Japan is this small island that stood up against Western global domination. Even religiously, it hasn't been influenced much by global faiths like Christianity or Islam, and just has its own thing. In that sense, I think Japan's uniqueness is something really fragile.

I always feel melancholy reading Japanese history, because it's a painful reminder of how fragile, ephemeral, and contingent truly great societies are. Pre-Meiji Japan was just not like modern Japan.

A tale as old as time: embracing the bubble. Most well adjusted Gaijin primarily hang out with other foreigners (and English-speaking Japanese). They're the happy ones. They've accepted it. That doesn't mean don't try to integrate and learn Japanese though.

@D_E_Harris_Best @Clint_Davey1 All the conquistadors whilst exceptionally talented at war, died backstabbing each other. They were warriors, not modern examples of how to model a state.

The Spanish conquistadors ran out of gunpowder during the conquest of Mexico. So they had to make their own from scratch. To make gunpowder you need saltpetre, charcoal and sulfur. How did they get sulfur? By lowering one of their guys into a volcano.

Robert De Niro and Tarantino couldn’t get along before Jackie Brown. De Niro wanted to play Max Cherry. He lobbied for it. But Tarantino already promised that part to Robert Forster. He handed him the script in a restaurant and said, “You will do this, that’s all there is to it.”
