I knew the Pakistani Muslim men were raping white working class girls by the thousand. I knew the police protected them. I knew the councils called the victims racist. I knew because I helped create the climate where calling it out was Islamophobia. I called it bullshit because the rapists looked like me. I called it bullshit because the victims were kuffar, cattle, animals, the unbelievers I preached against in my sermons. I called it bullshit because Sammy Woodhouse is white and working class and female and I have spent my career learning to despise people like her. I was fired from MSNBC, The Intercept, every platform that employed me, because I am poison. Because I cannot tell truth. Because my entire identity is built on denial. Because if I admit the grooming gangs were real, I admit I am complicit. I admit my community has a problem. I admit I spent decades calling critics racist while children were raped. I am Mehdi Hasan. I called your daughters liars. I called their trauma bullshit. I called their rapists victims of Islamophobia. I am the reason they covered it up.
