The US college underemployment rate is at crisis levels:
The underemployment rate for recent college graduates is up to 42.5%, the highest since the 2020 pandemic peak.
This means nearly half of all recent graduates are working jobs that do not require a college degree.
The rate also matches the levels seen during the 2008 Financial Crisis.
Furthermore, 52.0% of all college graduates are underemployed upon initial entry into the labor market.
Even 10 years after graduation, 45.0% of college graduates remain underemployed.
Criminal justice majors have the highest underemployment rate at 67.2%, followed by performing arts at 62.3%, medical technicians at 57.9%, liberal arts at 56.5%, and anthropology at 55.9%.
Americans are paying more than ever for a degree that no longer guarantees the career it promises.

Mid-Market is the best segment (for most) to be an AE.
And I've sold in SMB, MM, and ENT.
Here's my case:
-Most levers to hit your target - mid-market will always have some more Enterprise deals and some SMB deals that still hit your segment. Territory lines aren't perfect. Having a combination of whale deals to blow out your number and quick wins, keep you sane.
-SMB is fun but has the smallest deal size. Means you have to close the highest numbers of deals. Thus highest # activities, prospecting, and active deals. It's hard to thrive if you don't outwork others. Fun for a few years but too grindy.
-If you sell ENT, you are chasing large, complex deals. Very rewarding but very thin margin of error. Might only win a few deals a year. Often feast or famine for reps where they can earn $500K+ or finish the year sub 30% of target. Long cycles mean you're in it for the long haul.
-Mid-market sized companies are generally large private companies or small public companies. Legit, stable businesses with budgets and big goals. But (usually) without all the red tape (procurement, legal, security) that you might expect in upmarket delays.
Important note: I don't believe that every rep should just be working their way 'up' to the next segment. One isn't automatically better than the other.
Some sellers are the best fit for SMB vs. ENT long-term, and there's no wrong answer.
For me, for now - absolutely loving ENT :)
