@JoyceCarolOates In 1973 the Australian government bought Pollock's 'Blue Poles' for US $2 million. There was almost universal condemnation about wasting public money on abstract art. It is now valued at US $350 million and still in our National Gallery.

Pollock's splashes, splotches, swipes, drips & shapes are decorative nothings best suited to brighten up the dull concrete brutalist foyer of a hedge fund/corporate headquarters &c, who can afford 'painting by the yard' (cf Max von Sydow in Hannah) but they don't represent profundity by allusion, any more than does Rothko. My god the profundity!:
