Congratulations to LUDC researchers Daniel Engelbertsen and Alexandru Schiopu who have been awarded a grant of SEK five million by The Swedish Heart Lung Foundation @hjartlungfonden 👏 Their project aims to identify treatments that can prevent new heart attacks. #cancer #diabetes

IL1RAP blockade is being evaluated in clinical trials to limit tumor growth (Nadunolimab) and to treat autoimmune conditions (CAN10). Our work suggests that IL1RAP blockade may limit atherosclerotic disease, but studies in humans are required to evaluate clinical efficacy.

Our new study ‘Interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein blockade limits the development of atherosclerosis and reduces plaque inflammation’ is now published in Cardiovascular Research (doi.org/10.1093/cvr/cv…).

We demonstrate that genetic loss or antibody-mediated blockade of LAG3 promotes T cell activation and accumulation of T cells in atherosclerotic plaques. This is of particular interest given the recent FDA approval of anti-LAG3/anti-PD1 for treatment of melanoma.
