Here’s the thing: Endorsement of sexual double standards, typically expressed via slut shaming of women, is correlated with endorsement of sexual violence among men and with sexual assault victimization among women. Therefore, it is objectively and empirically rape culture. Because there are net societal sexual double standards, where women are judged more harshly for sexual behavior, and because women exercise much more self restraint, this contributes to mating marketplace imbalances — where desirable, promiscuous men tend to monopolize markets. This is bad for society. Sexual double standards also contribute to other problems, such as sexual dysfunction in women, medical harm, FGM, etc. There are meanwhile no proven negative outcomes of reverse sexual double standards. Given that incentivizing monogamy is the goal of society, and given that a balanced mating marketplace is critical for efficiency, it is men’s behavior that needs to become less slutty for balanced to be reached.
