@moriah_bridges @mom_of_littles An eval is for a diagnosis not just an IEP/504. A diagnosis helps understand how to help the individual whether that’s therapy, medication, learning tools, etc.

Son is displaying some pretty severe ADHD behavior along with his sensory processing stuff. Pediatrician gave me an evaluation to fill out. Nurse called me back today. Here’s how the convo went. Nurse (super nice): so Dr said it does look like he’s showing some early signs of ADHD. Dr wants to repeat the evaluation in November after he starts school so the teacher can get to know him and fill out the eval. Me: okay and what if we’re homeschooling? Nurse (super rude): uh. IS that what you’re doing? Me: yeah that’s why I said that Nurse (even more rude): okay well if that’s the case then this (the ADHD) doesn’t even matter Me: ……. Like what the heck?? Does ADHD only affect kids negatively when they’re in public school? I hung up the phone after she said that.

@mom_of_littles That’s pretty awful and definitely incorrect info from the nurse. A diagnosis is to support the child not the adult. If you’re interested, I work for a nonprofit that creates resources to support those w/ ADHD. Here’s some info on ADHD & homeschool. understood.org/en/search-resu…

During my lifetime, we've gone from several meetings spread throughout Sunday and during the week, to the 3 hour block, to the old 2 hour block, to the new 2 hour block. It's POLICY, not doctrine. 5-10 years from now, they may adjust it again after trying this out. Church is still true. Gospel hasn't changed.

@Seth_1 Time for announcements to be in a newsletter or some other digital source. Classes should be focused counseling together, I think that’s what’s missing. The lessons should be less of a lecture and more of a directed counsel where we discuss what we learned and how we apply it.

What am I excited for with the new Block Schedule: I’m excited for the youth to meet weekly again. I believe that is sorely needed. - Also that it’s a curriculum based off of an updated For the Strength of Youth pamphlet. I’m also excited for the adults to meet weekly and it reduces confusion of what is happening. I’m just worried about the time. We can have announcements for 25 minutes, so I’m hoping everyone realized the shortage of time.

@bmariner @huge_nibley 100%! And if we strengthen the youth we strengthen the church. Better missionaries, better leaders, stronger families. It’s more efficient than trying to get adults to, as you said, get their crap together.

@HboydIII @huge_nibley Yes. This will sound harsh, but it’s time to focus primarily on the youth (we’ve been moving that way for a while now). Yes, that will be at some sacrifice to adults. But adults are adults; it’s time we get our own crap together.

I was thinking about this earlier… what will happen when church is shortened to an hour. I’m torn with the church’s drive to make gospel learning happen at home and keeping our faith more community based. A lot of the young men I’ve taught over the years didn’t have Christ centered homes. Church and young men’s was the only time they interacted with the gospel. I’m afraid for them. I’m afraid they’ll be lost in the consequential apathy of these changes if members see this as another way to get out of doing more.
