To add to this, I talked to my community about what people are saying. I was confused with some people calling me a hypocrite, I do advocate mental health for women and men. The DQ12 protag was likely designed by Toriyama back when it was still "The Flames of Fate" which is why I think his style of design "clashes" with the more bright and typical DQ vibrant world DQ12 is now presenting, as opposed to them intentionally going into a more "mature" route with DQ12 initially. With the pivot and these being potentially Toriyama's actual final character designs for DQ it now means the designs have to be used as is but in the new setting/story. Though I do wonder why not just make DQ13 the bright and vibrant more typical DQ and keep DQ12 on its original "darker" trajectory? 🤔 I'd wager that they restarted from scratch sometime after April 2024 around the time Miyake was demoted from Creative Business Unit 2 and Saito replaced him.
