The 2026 NEET-UG paper leak scandal led to the cancellation of the original exam (held May 3) and a Re-NEET scheduled for June 21. It affected over 22-23 lakh aspirants, compounding stress from overlapping CBSE OSM issues. The probe, now with the CBI, exposed an alleged organized racket involving NTA insiders, professors, coaching operators, and intermediaries. ### Timeline of Key Events May 3, 2026: NEET-UG exam conducted nationwide. Pre-exam circulation: A "guess paper" or leaked questions (especially Chemistry, Biology, Physics) reportedly circulated - 45 hours before, with significant overlaps to the actual paper. Initial detection linked to Rajasthan (Sikar), with complaints filed. May 7-12 : NTA received inputs; investigations escalated. Exam officially cancelled on May 12 due to confirmed irregularities. May 12 onwards : CBI takes over; FIR registered. Multiple arrests begin. May 15 : Re-exam announced for June 21, with application fee refunds. Ongoing : CBI raids, arrests (13+ as of late May), forensic analysis of devices/documents. ### Modus Operandi and Key Accused The leak allegedly originated from NTA insiders involved in paper-setting/evaluation processes. Key elements: Insider access : Professors/experts memorized or accessed questions and dictated them in "special coaching" sessions. Distribution network : Intermediaries (coaching owners, doctors, teachers, headmistress) sold access for high fees (₹15 lakh+ reported in some cases). Papers moved via personal networks, Telegram, etc., across states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi. Major arrests (13+ total, from Maharashtra-heavy network, plus other states): P.V. Kulkarni (Chemistry professor, Pune/Latur; key "kingpin"/source): NTA expert/paper-setter; allegedly dictated questions at his residence. Manisha Gurunath Mandhare (Botany lecturer, NTA expert). Manisha Sanjay Havaldar (Pune school headmistress; linked to Physics questions). Shivraj Motegaonkar (RCC coaching institute founder, Latur). Shubham Khairnar (Nashik; distributor). Others: Tejas Harshadkumar Shah (Physics faculty, Pune coaching), Dr. Manoj Shirure (Latur paediatrician), and more from Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, etc. Coaching nexus in Maharashtra (Latur/Pune) under scrutiny. Evidence includes matching handwritten notes, seized gadgets, and call records. ### Impact on Students Mass trauma : Lakhs faced uncertainty, lost prep momentum, financial strain (coaching fees), and mental health crisis. Reports of student suicides linked to stress. Re-NEET challenges : Short prep window (especially for CBSE students dealing with OSM/re-evaluation delays). Supreme Court declined postponement or CBT switch, prioritizing admission cycle; petitions for reforms ongoing. Broader fallout : Eroded trust in NTA; calls for systemic overhaul, accountability, and better security (e.g., phased digital shift). ### Responses and Reforms NTA/CBI: Enhanced security for Re-NEET (stricter protocols, monitoring). CBI continues raids/searches (49+ locations). Government : Leadership changes, parliamentary scrutiny, promises of long-term fixes (possible CBT from future years). Court sp: Supreme Court expressed concern over recurring issues ("sad" no lessons from prior years), stressed accountability, and heard pleas for NTA restructuring. No full cancellation of Re-NEET. Political/Student : Protests, demands for minister's resignation, judicial probes. This mirrors past vulnerabilities (e.g., 2024 issues) but highlights deeper insider risks in a high-stakes, pen-paper exam for millions. The CBI probe is active; more details may emerge. For affected students: Focus on official NTA updates, document grievances, and use support helplines. Reforms like robust digital safeguards, stricter vendor/insider vetting, and hybrid models are urgently discuss.

NEET UG 2026 paper leak | A lawyer appearing for NEET-UG students informed the Supreme Court that around 1,600 candidates were facing “tremendous anxiety and pressure” after seeing proceedings before the Delhi High Court yesterday where it was admitted that alleged paper leaks had surfaced on social media. The lawyer also sought the Court’s intervention over concerns that many students are unable to download their admit cards and there is little time left before the examination. The Supreme Court, however, declined to entertain the mentioning, “We will not entertain this. We know even judicial platforms are being used for these… All these matters are before Justice Narasimha’s bench. When vacation will be over it will all be taken up”, CJI Surya Kant said.

16 NEET aspirants. 16 families shattered. NTA says everything is under control. For the Judiciary, summer vacations seem more important than the urgency students are facing. No accountability from the Education Minister. No response from the Government. #NEET2026 #RENEET #NEET

@IndiaInfoTech1 I didn’t say he solved it. I said he stood with students and raised the issue at a national level. Supporting a cause and solving it are two different things.

@ANI The last line "When vacation will be over it will all be taken up”, CJI Surya Kant said. It shows the judiciary's concerns towards the young NEET Aspirants. I don't think any judge's kid has to face such anxiety and stress of paper leaks and admit card download. All the best!

The NEET UG 2026 examination is just three days away. You'll never know about a paper leak this time. We want to money so that BJP can buy votes for ₹10,000 in 2029 elections. We are with leakers. -National Testing Agency
National Testing Agency@NTA_Exams

📌 A message to our students The NEET UG 2026 examination is just three days away. To every candidate: you have worked hard, you have prepared, and now is the time to trust your effort. Stay calm, rest well, and focus on doing your best. That is all that is asked of you. The examination will be conducted as scheduled. Please do not be swayed by rumours of postponement or by the noise on social media. Rely only on official communication from NTA. We want to reassure you that extensive arrangements are in place for a safe, secure and fair examination, in close coordination with relevant ministries, state governments and security agencies. The integrity of this process is our highest priority, and robust, multi-layered safeguards have been put in place. Any attempt at malpractice will be dealt with firmly - because protecting honest, hardworking students is exactly what this is about. The difficult decision taken on 3rd May was made solely in your interest. The moment a problem was identified, we acted to protect the fairness of the process for every sincere candidate. We have carried those lessons forward and strengthened the system further this time. If the pressure feels heavy, please know you are not alone. The MANAS mental-health helpline (14416) is available, and support is there for anyone who needs it. Reaching out is a sign of strength. 🙏 A humble request to parents, teachers, and the wider community: please help us keep our students calm. Avoid sharing unverified information. Let them walk into the examination with steady, untroubled minds. To our students - breathe, trust yourselves, and give it your best. We are with you. -National Testing Agency

As a NEET aspirant, I am disgusted by NTA's absolute mismanagement. Changing roll nos & centres just 48 hrs before the exam is pure mental harassment. Do you even want us to take the exam? Zero faith left in this system. A parcel full of middle fingers to NTA! #NEETUG2026 #NTA

Banning Telegram is a lazy and incompetent knee-jerk response that punishes students instead of fixing the real problem. Lakhs of students use Telegram for study material, updates, peer learning and exam preparation. Why should they suffer because the NTA and the Union Government repeatedly fail to conduct exams with integrity? Paper leaks, delays, mismanagement and opaque systems have become the NTA’s trademark. Instead of holding the agency accountable, the Government wants to ban platforms, silence channels and shift blame. The issue is not Telegram, the issue is Central Government’s and NTA’s incompetence.
