@Tom_Rowsell @Harry_pitt @EuroConOfficial So where did the locals go?I read that the Romans used Germanics as soldiers So that would create a foothold for newcomers but I doubt mass slaughter. I’m wary of DNA tests I find Germans resemble poles in many places. But Dutch do not

The Germanic tribes that entered the British Isles in the 5th century and beyond were remarkably un-diverse, says historian @Tom_Rowsell on The Forge 🔥 On behalf of @EuroConOfficial, our St. George’s Day special episode premieres tomorrow evening at 7pm (BST) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Link below.

@forrest_lo16522 @Kengetskeltikos @aidannonx @Mrgman32 No, Im saying its fake because it is I have a fair amount of ancestry that wouldve been Celts 2000 years ago. Interesting to learn about and Im glad to be partially descended from them but basing my identity around it is as fake as LARPing as Yamnaya or a Western Hunter Gatherer

@forrest_lo16522 @Kengetskeltikos @aidannonx @Mrgman32 Ok. They all had an Neolithic Farmer component as well if you go back further. Pretty meaningless in a modern context. 100 years ago no Anglo, Portuguese or Swiss people were saying they were all the same because some ancestors spoke a Celtic language 2000 years earlier

@Interlken @Kengetskeltikos @aidannonx @Mrgman32 Welsh, for example, is a Celtic language still spoken today alongside English. Celts had their own language and religious culture. They're cousins of other Europeans sure but were very much their own thing too. I'm not sure where this desire to deny their existence comes from.

@Kengetskeltikos @aidannonx @Mrgman32 Who said anything about rape? Point being that almost nobody speaks a Celtic language now. Even 2000 years ago the genetic connection between Celtiberians, Insular Celts and Hallstatt Celts was dubious. Celtic was a linguistic group and the identity today is a complete LARP

@Kengetskeltikos @aidannonx @Mrgman32 Irish and Welsh were basically cannon fodder of the British Empire. The Lowlands Scots were an important element along with the English but neither of those were really Celtic

@Interlken @aidannonx @Mrgman32 Dutch, sure, but the British Empire was built by Celts. The Irish, Welsh, and Scottish played an overwhelmingly large role in the British Empire, disproportionately so, as officers and enlisted men. As for the English, the West of England is Celtic, East less so.

@Siegfried881 @PingCymru They all traditionally sprak a German dialect. Most modern “Celts” don’t speak a Celtic language and in a lot of cases don’t have any ancestors that did either for 500+ years. It’s a ridiculous LARP

@terciodearagon @Civixplorer Geographically close warm weather location. The Canary Islands are basically the Caribbean of Western Europe. Plus Spain has some cool cities and an interesting culture

@aidannonx @Mrgman32 "Germanic Celts"...that's like saying African Chinese. We are two separate peoples. BTW, it's the Celts who conquered the world. The Portuguese, British, French and Spanish Empires were all built with Celtic blood. If the Germanics are so great where was Germany's empire? Puny

@NaomiSeibt Architecture? Maybe if we want buildings to look like shoeboxes. Switzerland is known as the country for producing the best architecture. Science? Oh my God is that funny. Tell me when Germany lands on the moon. America is known as the country that has done the most for science.

@Interlken @wapol_vu @DPolishPrince @NaomiSeibt I wonder if they had a polish school in Bologna. Dude, you have presented no evidence, only either straight up lies, misrepresentations of facts, or just cope. And from his father's side his family was polish, not german, originating from Kraków (now lesserpoland) and Silesia.

@DPolishPrince @NaomiSeibt Pollack inferiority complex on display. You can pick a random state in Germany like Saxony and it will have more historical influence than the entirety of Poland

@NaomiSeibt Technology, Germany? 😃 America is known as the mother of technology to the world. Can a half-ass country like Germany claim creating the internet, microchip, assembly line, artificial intelligence, refrigeration, artificial hearts the microchip or AC Electricity?

@Interlken @wapol_vu @DPolishPrince @NaomiSeibt Wow, he wrote in German to people who only spoke german in a german teutonic state, because as far as I am aware these are the only of his letters that we have. And the other one is just bullshit, from what thin air have you pulled that one from?

@Interlken @wapol_vu @DPolishPrince @NaomiSeibt And where did you get that revelation from? Because at the present time we have no idea what wac Copernicus' native tongue, as all of his works are in Latin (which for sure was not his native tongue). He for sure spoke German, but we do not know if it was his native language.

@wapol_vu @DPolishPrince @NaomiSeibt We do not know the ethnicity of Copernicus. Though the Ethnic make up of the Teutonic state was... very much mixed, and all the signs in heaven and earth point to him being Polish.
