This paper helps calm my nagging worry that maybe we've all been wrong about genetics and drug success. By looking at a completely new dimension of drug success/failure, they reaffirm the effect we have seen using target-indication pair progression. nature.com/articles/s4158…

I see that the internet is loving this new paper, but has the internet read the wonderful opinion on it by my former postdoc Emily King? lnkd.in/gdtfTFcs

Genetic evidence halves the odds of early clinical trial stoppage 🧬💊 Published today in @NatureGenet, @lesya_rzvvsk trained a machine learning classifier to analyse the free-text reasons explaining why 28,842 clinical trials stopped 3 key points: nature.com/articles/s4158…

Very honored to be promoted to <no-adjectives/full> Professor! It would not have been possible without all my amazing colleagues, all current and past trainees, mentors and the support of my family. Thank you so much!

@jkpritch Interesting read! The narrative style is nice and reminds me of how scientific papers from a century ago read.

I'm excited to see the work from @jkpritch's former students and grand-students at the reunion symposium! Great talk from @HannahMoots on ancestry and relatedness of ancient Mediterranean civilization kicks it off.

I was happy to contribute to this paper with my former postdoc Minal. She used text mining and some serious brute force to try to understand how our community is approaching GWAS fine mapping. Your feed back is welcome! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@chchatham @AbePalmer Thanks! I think figure 2 gets at this point some. We see that genetic evidence is specifically predictive when it supports target relevance for a highly similar disease to the disease the drug(s) are being trialed for (trait-indication similarity).

@JacobFDegner @AbePalmer Very interesting! The contrast between GWAS & OMIM is interesting. Can/have you evaluated how much the putative advantage relates to genetic info in particular, vs a more general null H0: "drugs are more likely to progress when more is known about their targets (genetic or not)?"
