Had the chance to hang out in Julius Nyerere’s (first president of TZ) personal library and found this PA classic among many others.

This is not a margarita! It's a famcy plastic cup filled with dirty kiddie pool water and green chalk. Yum! Doing my best #academicmom work here while our elememtary schools are closed due to the heat and no AC...and my semester started Monday.

@cbgoodman I wouldn’t be surprised if other suburbs look to become DWC members as a result of this, both existing Chicago customers and far western communities not on lake water. Improves the economics if membership grows, but hurts Chicago even more.

Cutting out Chicago from the water distribution chain will cost Chicago about 30% of its water distribution revenue (assuming nothing changes). That's a crisis for Chicago, especially if it's using these water contracts to subsidize city water prices (which is surely happening).

"The question becomes can we build a new system and have it cost less than $120 million a year," said Paul May, water commission executive director. "As concluded by that report, the answer is yes." dailyherald.com/news/20230601/…

@Amanda_Kass @srboisvert I guess if we mean “Chicago” the region and not the city, than it’s true. There is 12 that pull from the lake, but only 7 and a JAWA that sell water.

I’ve been lucky to work with TDS since 2015 and see the meaningful impact that investing in girls’ education has on communities in Mara, Tanzania. Today’s a great opportunity for donations to TDS to receive a match and help buy books, computers, water for schools, etc. Link👇

@capitolfax I hope I'm misreading or misinterpreting things because this sounds like a potential disaster for places that wish to sell municipal assets to, say, increase housing production. A school district or a park district could shut that down by buying the property and squatting.

This seems to have perhaps broader ranging impacts than the senate intends. By tying it to the transfer act, selling any local govt owned property must first be offered to overlapping govts. Think of all the NIMBY implication here. (h/t @capitolfax) rblandmark.com/2023/05/02/ill…

Local governments have more than one option for regionalizing water systems and there are tradeoffs. Grateful for the opportunity to share our team’s findings during this awesome panel!

Really enjoyed presenting my research with @MPSAnet on the role of intergovernmental organizations as regional policy coordinators in the sustainability space. So much good feedback on where to go with this next.
