@MateyYanakiev @DrJordanBCooper I agree with this take other than Aquinas being post schism, the great schism causes such a rift politically and culturally that it leads the west to some pretty drastic changes in how theology is understood.

@DrJordanBCooper Honestly, we just need to embrace Catholic theologians as our own. If we are full-throatedly catholic Christians—that is, members of the universal Church—we would have 0 scruples quoting historic Christians freely as part of our tradition.

Protestants need to stop using the "Thomist" label. We need less "Thomas for Protestants," and more writing on our own figures, like Balthasar Meisner or Cornelius Martini. The "we can use Thomas too!" framing is inevitably going to make it seem as if we are just second rate RCs who can do nothing more than borrow from their theologians/philosophers. I say this as one who loves St. Thomas. But he cannot be treated as the beginning and end of all theological and philosophical discourse, especially from a Protestant perspective.

@MateyYanakiev Love Maximus, his theology is very central to the 6th council, and I think you could go as far as to say they also greatly influence Palamas and St John of Damascus works.

Do people really not know that Allah is God, and God is Allah? Yes Muslims believe in the same God the Christians do. Weird they are religiously branded as our enemy while religions that spit on God are posed as our “friends”. 🤔

@mitchapaluzaa Allah is just Arabic for God, Middle Eastern Christians call God Allah as well. It is not the exact representation though, and there’s well over a thousand years of debate to show the discrepancy between the two deities.

@Jorge_Merle Also technically ur argument breaks at the start because ur claiming they use the same word, and they don’t. Your point would make sense if we both said “God”. They use Allah, yet still represent almost the same exact representation of an all encompassing totality.

This is a post for anyone and everyone and if you see it comments and give advice or whatever it is: What is your advice to either me or someone new to the faith on how to hate one's own sin? I'm asking for the knowledge of something, because knowing how to do something and knowing something is different than being successful at it. So what is your advice?

@MateyYanakiev I think the patristic witness is what matters in this case as to how we interpret. Obviously people will disagree there as well though 🤣

Matthew 16:18 definitely entails that despite many tribulations, the Church will not go fully apostate. Rather, she will continue her assault on Hades. But what part of Matthew 16:18 entails the Church will never pronounce falsely on doctrine?

There are many who are upset at my decision to become Orthodox. And many who in the coming days will begin to attack my character. I understand your frustration, but please understand one thing. In order to be obedient to God I’ve had to sacrifice my position in the church, my pastoral ministry, anger my friends, and those who have hosted me, and open myself up to all sorts of criticism. I’m sure even many will leave my channel. But ultimately none of that matters, I have an audience of One. My Lord Jesus Christ. And I will not be disobedient to Him.
