@SneakyBeaver Yet, Twitter bot groups have been exposed. Reddit is falsely inflated by bots for years. A good bot farm could make $3k a hour.
Runescape is famous for bot farms that make pennies on the dollar because of the conversion rate.
There are literal companies that do this for media.

The "popularity" of Marathon may have been astroturfed. Evidence from the leaked Discord thread shows they were allegedly paid $5 per main Reddit post and $3 per comment/reply. There is no confirmation yet whether this is true or not, but it could signal Bungie's desperation to combat the negative press the game is getting... because 19K off peak and barely over 40k on peak hours is not gonna be enough to sustain this game long term, due to the costs and budget of the game. Steam review manipulations have also occurred in the past with games like SKIBIDI BACKROOMS, Monsters Domain, Lonely Knight, and Blue Archive. But the disconnect between high steam reviews and the rapidly vanishing playerbase is real... and some people are saying that the positive Marathon reviews are allegedly coming from low-playtime accounts. Even recently, Bungie was accused of scrubbing negative feedback on the Xbox store, where the ratings jumped from ~2.5 to 4+ stars after negatives vanished...

Could any of the hate be due to Bungie's history. Surely the company that created Halo could never scorn a fan. I'm sure they have never gotten political or used Identity Politics to turn a profit. I'm sure leaving Destiny 2 to flounder and die off over Marathon, couldn't cause any of that. Bungie has burned a lot of previous fans.

It’s 50-50. Journalists give good games low rates and bad games high ratings. No one is mad you are enjoying a game. You get mad people say at scale it’s a flop and it is at scale a failure. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the game. Shit people enjoy games that sell 3 copies. At the end of the day both sides have valid points. But this is a game not a lot of people wanted, which is shown on paper. That is ok, just expect it to be called out. Look how the last CoD was trashed. No one wanted that shit either. I’m talking general audiences expectations.

They try to shame you about steam charts. Most of the player base is on steam. You don't play so don't criticize it. Games 24 hour player count is high 30ks. It's not about if it's bad or not, it's about the lies and the smoke screen. Calling us bigots and N*zis doesn't work anymore, just go play the game. You might as well get that $5 for your post. Bungie gives us the best extraction game to date, one of the best art directions in a MP game ever, insanely tight gunplay and amazing end-game maps. Everyone who plays Marathon is having fun. Sad, broken man cries instead of enjoying what he enjoys (probably nothing)

@UnluckyRose Siege had a better release and still has a better base. Remember 80% of Marathon players are on steam. Currently its 37k to 85k, point to Siege.

Marathon is literally Sony’s best multiplayer game. hit #1 in US sales and #2 global before/after launch, with great reviews, and a playerbase of superfans after barely a month.
it’s beating the competitors for paid shooters, and closing the gap behind Arc. definitely “A Hit”
