Every one of these dots is an actual crash from the fleet. Real world speeds, collisions, and people. Not just the regulatory test cases. The richness of this data is what enabled the result. With simulation we can replay the crashes and measure the forces on the human body model. Then sweep through restraint deployment times to find that deploying earlier gives the time for the bag to be inflated optimally and seat belt pretension before the occupant has moved out of position. But it takes time for crash accelerometers to be certain. Lowering that time threshold risks unwanted deployments. Using vision gives the vehicle confidence to reduce that timing. The camera sees the impending impact and together with the sensors tell the restraint controller to reduce the filter and act sooner. The Y Axis shift in Predicted Injury Severity is based on sensors in the human body models from rerunning the crash simulations with the faster detection threshold. Such a reduction in injury severity across the spectrum is unheard of, let alone doing this via an update over the air. I'm extremely proud of the analysis team's work and dedication. Going above and beyond to ask "we have the safest car on the road but can we make it even safer?" And then working with the vision team to build the predictions needed to make it happen. Rigorously tested in simulation and then in physical crash testing. Now deployed and improving lives. I watch the video on loop and just imagine each dot, a person.

Tesla Vision allows us to deploy airbags up to 70 milliseconds earlier if your Tesla detects an unavoidable collision This can be the difference between serious injury & walking away from a crash

@AlexTISYoung The book PEAK by Anders Ericsson gets at the idea that chess (like most things) is related to dedication (# of hours) of "Deliberate" PRACTICE. (Many high IQ people do well at first, but then must do the 1000s of hours of practice or they get lapped by those that do.)

@TRIGGERHAPPYV1 That's not really art though. A chair is degenerate art. You may as well grab any household item, put some crystals on it or whatever and call it "Rembrandt." It's the same thing as a 5 year old girl putting stickers on everything.

Why is it that generationally wealthy people can live out pretty degenerate lives and turn out surprisingly okay. But poor people are utterly destroyed by their degeneracy & their life outcomes only seem to improve when they finally clean up/become religiously observant?

Almost everything Ellie says about this is wrong The real reason that more educated people in Britain vote left wing is that the education system is an indoctrination system that indoctrinates people with leftist lies, because it is run by radical leftists The more time you spend in it, the more corrupted your brain gets

This graph is one of the most successful pieces of populist propaganda I've seen on this app in recent times. It flatters left-leaning voters into thinking they are super smart because they vote left, while the thickies vote right. But one of the most basic rules in data analysis is that correlation does not equal causation. In other words, this graph means approximately fuck all. "Most educated", for a start, is not a meaningful category. Not any more. As Colin Wright put it: "Grade inflation and university ideological capture means that a bachelor’s degree is no longer an honest signal of competence. In some woke fields, a PhD is an honest signal of incompetence." (@SwipeWright often shares PhDs being given on the basis of the most farcical/inane 'research'. Take a look. It's fascinating. And depressing.) "Educational attainment" may also, for example, correlate with an inability to get on the housing ladder, employment or even just your home town having been completely reengineered by immigration in your lifetime. Anyway, all that aside we just don't vote based on our level of education. We vote based on identity, issue salience, leader evaluations, perceived party values, tactical considerations and local candidate incumbency/loyalty (although that's rare these days). Sometimes we even vote on policy. And yes - messaging and occasionally propaganda have a lot to do with all of that. But if you think only the right engages in propaganda - or that only 'uneducated people' fall for it - have I got a Polanski for you. The man who created this graph knew exactly what he was doing. It worked.

@SamaHoole Activists are so obsessed with sticking solar panels in the worst most inconvenient places possible. Just freaking put them on roofs or unused land. Any time you combine them with something else you are obstruction that something else and adding cost for no reason.

Activist: "You can graze sheep underneath solar panels. It's called agrivoltaics." Farmer: "I've read the brochures." Activist: "Best of both worlds." Farmer: "The panels shade the sward. Productive species die back. What grows is what tolerates shade and compaction. Sheep won't finish on it." Activist: "But the trials show it works." Farmer: "The trials run three years and measure ewe presence. Not lamb growth rates. Not finishing weights. Not what the soil looks like in year fifteen." Activist: "It's still better than nothing." Farmer: "It's a 30% stocking rate, a steel frame I can't plough around, panel-cleaning chemicals running into the watercourse, and a 40-year lease I can't break." Activist: "But you're getting energy AND lamb." Farmer: "I'm getting a third of the lamb, a maintenance contract, and a field my grandson can't farm." Activist: "You're being negative." Farmer: "I'm watching a thousand-year-old way of feeding people get traded for twenty-five years of subsidised electricity. Negative would be the polite word."

@MoreBirths Very interesting. But is it causation or correlation? Could low fertility women be attracted to moving into and living in dense cities? Naturally one can imagine women who plan on having kids move out of high density areas into better kids friendly neighborhoods.

Downtown Shanghai has a fertility rate of just 0.45 births per woman. All over the world, dense cityscapes mean very low birthrates. Could it be that something about crowded urban living itself causes people to have fewer kids? It certainly seems that way. 🧵.

It’s not weird to y’all that not a single billionaire wants to end world poverty? Not even one rich person? It’s just “what they do with their money is up to them”? Yeah, sure- but it’s not WEIRD to you that not ONE single person wants to be a big hero and solve the world’s problems when they LITERALLY could? That’s not bizarre or suspicious?
