Throwback to #MET24 conference at the University of Hull, where our PhD candidates @NashraAhmad_ and Connor Kirts presented their papers. Nashra is studying perception of North-Indian rhythms, while Connor is developing psychometric tools to measure emotional episodes in music.

Looking back on #sysmus24 held @CoEMMBB in the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. @tuomas_ee gave a keynote talk about the health of the field and both Connor and Nashra delved into their ongoing PhD work. Looking forward to attend #sysmus25 @UniOslo_RITMO in Oslo, Norway!!!

We evidenced some positive changes over the last decade, though with plenty of work still to be done. Some subtopics also seem to suffer more from these sampling biases.

How diverse are the participants and music that we use in #musicscience research? Check out our new pre-print on this topic: doi.org/10.31234/osf.i… Our whole lab teamed up to examine the samples and stimuli used in over 1,600 studies from the past 13 years.

We found that music psychology studies still rely overwhelmingly on young, Western university students. Studies in non-Western countries also tended to rely on university students and young adults.
