…what on earth did we witness. I think on many fronts this fight highlighted the brutality of the sport, the sensationalism and the respect…the levels it takes to walk within the ropes. But it also highlighted a key message of looking after fighters, their wellbeing and protecting them against themselves. the UFC has trashed boxing for years to keep you from caring. shame, because there have been some incredible moments the last 9 days. - Inoue Nakatani at the Tokyo Dome, 55,000 fans, biggest fight in Japanese history - Benavidez TKO'd Zurdo moving up weight to become cruiserweight champ using a very fan friendly style. - Dubois dropped in 10 seconds, dropped again in the 3rd, climbs off the canvas to stop Wardley in the 11th. a FOTY frontrunner and modern classic. (not to mention a real life Rocky moment on the undercard) - Mosley-Bohachuk on the Zuffa card last night, phone booth fight with high volume, high paced action. casuals would have LOVED every one. you just got told not to bother.

As much as I love MMA, I couldn't care less about Boxing. Apparently there's a Zuffa card tonight, they tried real hard to sell it to us yesterday during #UFC328, yet I feel the majority of MMA fans doesn't translate into boxing fans. I'm I wrong ?

@sammy_rrrr great point - wasnt thinking about darts but Bruins playbook probably fits where darts is at than boxing (US scaling, sponsorship etc) And yep smart of matchroom to get a defence in place for the inevitable zuffa war thats coming.

@Pirrello Interesting 🤔 the timing of this deal as Zuffa starts to gain muscle in the game. As much as this is good for their boxing business 🥊, maybe it'll help their darts business which is rapidly growing and bringing in the most profit.

Matchroom keeps family control + brand + DAZN deal, and picks up institutional growth chops on top. Riyadh Season already reshaped boxing's supply side. Institutional growth capital is now moving on the commercial side. All of this is a commercial story. The sanctioning body rot sit outside anything capital touches, and ROI discipline historically pushes promoters toward safer matchmaking.

yep! thats my read anyway but may be wrong obvs. Bruin is a US firm and heavily US-skewed, and Matchroom's biggest underdeveloped market has always been the US. The UK is mature for them, Riyadh Season's monetising the Middle East piece, APAC is a longer play. The US is where institutional scaling actually moves the revenue needle, so i think thats where this is targeting.

@frankbay9r crowd is half the punch in boxing. wouldnt surprise me if fighters pull back from sequences they'd press in a hot room with the crowd going wild. sucks the life out the fights.

Im sorry I like Zuffa fights but these crowds are seriously dull. Sounds like Im at a cheer camp show with everyone busy and just one or two families cheering. Most of the crowd looks to be having a latte watching a fire fight. #zuffaboxing06

Boxing survives because fighters can move, negotiate, chase belts, build leverage and force big fights across promoters. Put contracts, rankings, belts and matchmaking under one machine and you kill that ecosystem. That’s how you ruin boxing. The Ali Act exists because boxing already learned what happens when too much power sits in too few hands.
