#ScienceTwitter and #SciComm peeps, I haven't make a scientific poster in awhile, what are the current best practices, tips, etc.? Friends don't let friends make bad posters.

@neurodaniela Maybe im too bias, but best poster should be about the design (readability, color palette, font, hierarchy, etc) and not about the scientific quality.

@MikeRTrice Well, if you can compress a big story into a short story, then posters are great.

Spicy Friday hot take: The poster is the worst academic genre and I’ve never made one.

@HariniSridhar3 There's a lot of softwares that are great, as long as they can support vector files, to allow print in bigger supports. Illustrator is my top choice, but it can be overwhelming. Knowing what you want before hand is more important than the software.

Finished my first scientific poster for a conference. My rational brain nods and says "Yeah, that's nice." Meanwhile, my anxiety brains screams into my ear "THIS IS THE UGLIEST POSTER IN THE HISTORY OF VISUAL DATA COMMUNICATION" 🙃

I guess it´s a balance between having enough info and being easy to read (good UX). Better to have something minimal that attracts people than having a busy poster that pushes people away, imo.
