So we've done it all and it's a great option to shout out a video and "command" viewers to go watch, but the best strategy I've had is two choices at natural end of video - a hand-selected similar video that fits the current video well, and then Best for Viewer on right. I think most important thing, and biggest mistake I see, is never have too many options. It's researched that it gets less effective after 2 maybe 3 choices. Some people fill all four corners with options and it's just too much. We also drop the subscribe button on most channels now.
