Bridging Classroom Knowledge with Real-World Practice.
This week, I delivered a guest lecture to Year 2 ICT students at the Uganda Institute of Information & Communications Technology (@UICTug), in collaboration with Ms. Brenda Nakanjako a Lecturer in the ICT & Engineering Department at UICT.
The session focused on connecting key academic concepts, such as:
➡️ Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
➡️ System Analysis & Design
➡️ Software Engineering principles, to real-world industry applications.
From practical case studies to interactive discussions, the goal was simple: help students see how what they study translates into actual systems, products, and impact in the market.
📌 What stood out most was the level of curiosity, engagement, and ambition from the students.
These are the future builders, innovators, and problem-solvers of our digital economy, and investing time in them is not optional, it’s necessary.
At Sumic IT Solutions Ltd (@SumicUg), we strongly believe in contributing to the ecosystem not just through building solutions, but also through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and shaping industry-ready talent.

Yesterday, I had a conversation that stayed with me.
One of the founders of a company that has consistently trusted us with digital transformation projects asked me a simple but powerful question:
“What motivates you to keep building Sumic?”
For a moment, I paused, not because I didn’t have an answer, but because the answer carries weight.
I told him:
“It’s the long, rich journey, from campus days in 2019 to where we are today. Through the ups and downs, the tides, the storms… we never chose to quit. We’ve survived pandemics, business depressions, uncertainty and we’re still moving forward.”
But when I later reflected on that journey… I realized something deeper.

Driving Cybersecurity Awareness & Standards for SMEs in Uganda 🇺🇬
Sumic IT Solutions Ltd participated in the Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on the Development of Cybersecurity Standards for SMEs, held on 31st March 2026 @innovationhubug
The workshop, organized by @NITAUganda1, brought together key ecosystem players to address the growing need for practical and scalable cybersecurity frameworks tailored to Small and Medium Enterprises.
📌 As highlighted during the discussions, SMEs are increasingly adopting digital technologies to streamline operations, improve customer engagement, and meet regulatory requirements.
However, this rapid digital shift has also exposed businesses to rising cybersecurity risks, including fraud, data breaches, and system vulnerabilities.
During the panel session, our CEO, @MrSumic, shared insights from both local industry experience and international exposure. Notably, he reflected on his participation in the UK Trade Partnerships (UKTP) Programme implemented by the International Trade Centre (@ITCnews), where he underwent:
⏺️ GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) training
⏺️ Development of an Export Marketing Plan
⏺️ International standards readiness and certification preparation
These experiences emphasized the importance of data protection, compliance, and global best practices, key pillars that Ugandan SMEs must adopt to compete in international markets.
We commend NITA-U for spearheading the development of a localized cybersecurity standard for SMEs, a critical step toward strengthening trust, enhancing business resilience, and enabling secure participation in both local and global digital economies.

Honored to Contribute to the Future of Cybersecurity for SMEs in Uganda 🇺🇬
I had the privilege of participating as a panelist in the Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on the Development of Cybersecurity Standards for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), held on 31st March 2026 @innovationhubug
This important engagement, organized by @NITAUganda1, brought together key stakeholders to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time, "securing the rapidly digitizing SME sector."
📌 As highlighted during the workshop, SMEs are increasingly embracing digital tools, from cloud accounting systems to mobile payments and CRM platforms, to drive growth and efficiency.
However, this transformation has also exposed them to rising cyber threats such as electronic fraud, data breaches, and system vulnerabilities.
During the panel session, we had insightful discussions on:
1️⃣ Real-world cybersecurity incidents affecting SMEs
2️⃣ Practical, affordable security measures businesses can adopt
3️⃣ The gap between existing global standards and the realities of local SMEs
4️⃣ The need for contextualized, scalable cybersecurity frameworks
One key takeaway is clear:
📌 Cybersecurity is no longer optional, it is foundational for business survival, trust, and growth.
I strongly commend NITA-U for taking a bold and strategic step in developing a tailored cybersecurity standard for SMEs, one that is practical, accessible, and aligned with the realities of our ecosystem.
At Sumic IT Solutions Ltd, this aligns deeply with our mission of driving digital transformation while ensuring secure, resilient, and future-ready businesses.
