In a significant boost to ICT capacity nationwide, UICT has equipped secondary school teachers from across the country with brand-new computers and essential accessories to enhance ICT training in their institutions. The teachers, participated in a three-day intensive training on Effective ICT Centre Operations and Maintenance, where they acquired practical skills in ICT equipment handling, preventive maintenance, inventory management, and cybersecurity. This training was conducted in partnership with @ITU @ITUAfrica under Phase II of the Digital Transformation Centres Initiative (DTCI). #DigitalTransformation #ICT4D #SkillsDevelopment

Today, in partnership with @pdpoUG, we hosted an insightful session on data protection, where we created space for women to learn, share, and take charge of their digital rights. We explored how women can confidently navigate the online world, protecting personal data, understanding digital risks, and embracing the responsibilities that come with being connected. From how data is collected and used to practical privacy tips, today's session highlighted empowerment through knowledge. Today, @MoICT_Ug, in collaboration with @STIsecretariat, convened a high-level strategic workshop to strengthen coordination across Uganda’s innovation ecosystem. The workshop brought together leadership and technical teams to map existing areas of collaboration, identify gaps, and co-develop a shared, forward-looking framework that integrates ICT and Science, Technology & Innovation initiatives in line with national priorities. Emphasizing the central role of digital skills in national development, Dr. @azawedde, Permanent Secretary at @MoICT_Ug, noted, “Digital skills are not a welfare programme , they are a value creation engine for jobs, businesses, and national growth.” Reinforcing this direction, Dr. @DrMusenero highlighted the country’s strategic shift, stating, “We are moving from consumption to production — building the capacity to create and retain value here in Uganda.” A key outcome of the engagement is the finalization of preparations for the soft launch of the IoT Lab—an important milestone reflecting the convergence of both institutions’ mandates in advancing technology development, deployment, and innovation. #DigitalUganda

This Women’s Month, Uganda’s digital future isn’t just being celebrated; it's being built. Hon. @DrMusenero, Minister for Science, Technology & Innovation, and Dr. @azawedde, Permanent Secretary of the @MoICT_Ug, have launched an operational roadmap to turn digital connectivity into real economic value. Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza explains the vision: “For too long, Uganda grew the coffee, but someone else sold the jar. We are building the factory, training the workforce, and keeping the profit inside Uganda. That is not a vision. That is a construction site.” Dr. Aminah Zawedde adds, "Digital skills are not a welfare program. Every young Ugandan we train is a unit of economic capacity, building products, running enterprises, employing others, and keeping value circulating in our economy.” The roadmap is live, connecting universities, innovation labs, manufacturing, and enterprise. Uganda is online, and now it will also be economically rewarded. How can Uganda ensure its young talent fully benefits from this digital-to-economic shift? Today, UICT participated in a high-level collaboration meeting with the @MoICT_Ug and @STIsecretariat to strengthen coordination in advancing Uganda’s science, technology and innovation agenda. Today, we hosted 130 students from @UCUniversity pursuing Computer Science, Information Technology, and Data Science for a student pitching session. The students took to the floor, pitching innovative technology ideas to a panel of external judges and walking away with the kind of feedback that turns good ideas into great ones. Beyond the pitches, the session also gave them a front-row seat to the innovation ecosystem and a tour of the Innovation Hub, where they interacted with different innovators.
