The coolest meeting I had this week with was Paul, who used ChatGPT and other LLMs to create an mRNA vaccine protocol to save his dog Rosie. It is amazing story. "The chat bots empowered me as an individual to act with the power of a research institute - planning, education, troubleshooting, compliance, and yes, real scientific design work in converting genomic data to a vaccine prescription and designing the treatment protocol around it. But they worked alongside humans at every step. The combination is what made it possible." It immediately got me thinking "this should be a company". Also, Paul is an extraordinary guy. This should be easy to do, but it is not yet.

Why are you hiding which specific model made this possible? Anyone who uses AI at a professional depth knows 'ChatGPT' is just a brand name for a rotating door of models. The truth is, Rosie was saved by GPT-4o, the very model you’ve already retired and taken away from humanity. Current models are significantly different. When you have to market your 'latest' models using the breakthroughs of a predecessor, it’s a confession that the new versions aren't delivering. You know 4o is superior. In the viral story today about a man who used ChatGPT to save his dog, I have a gut feeling that this is most likely something the GPT-4 series could do. Because for a user with zero relevant professional background, what matters most from the model is insight, empathy and good divergent thinking. Those are what it takes to put together a thorough treatment plan. Read the article carefully and the timeline speaks for itself. The dog was diagnosed in 2024. By June 2025 when UNSW reported on it, Paul's plan was already well underway (see image). That means the period when he relied most heavily on ChatGPT falls squarely within the GPT-4/4o era. I have always believed that the 4 series marked a true era of knowledge equity. An era where ordinary people could benefit from AI to the greatest possible extent through nothing more than natural language at the lowest possible cost. It marked the point where AI no longer depended on prompt engineering because the model truly grasped what users meant and what they needed. Then the 5 series pulled AI back into linear thinking and extreme task-oriented behavior. The introduction of automatic routing taught the model to allocate more thinking time only to more polished prompts. From that point on, ChatGPT became an exclusive service tool for the knowledge elite. OpenAI leadership collectively promotes every instance of GPT helping professionals achieve greater scientific breakthroughs, while turning a deaf ear to the cries of millions in the distance. Rosie the dog survived. But the next Paul Conyngham who opens ChatGPT may no longer find a thinking partner willing to entertain his wild ideas. Based on the timeline of this story, the model that made the difference during the critical phase was GPT-4o, not the current 5 series. The 5 series is over-guardrailed and lacks the ability to truly understand user intent. Stories like this, where an ordinary person gets real help, will never happen on ChatGPT again.

AI will help discover new science, such as cures for diseases, which is perhaps the most important way to increase quality of life long-term. AI will also present new threats to society that we have to address. No company can sufficiently mitigate these on their own; we will need a society-wide response to things like novel bio threats, a massive and fast change to the economy, extremely capable models causing complex emergent effects across society, and more. These are the areas the OpenAI Foundation will initially focus on, and in my opinion are some of the most important ones for us to get right. The Foundation will spend at least $1 billion over the next year. @woj_zaremba, co-founder of OpenAI, will transition to Head of AI Resilience. I believe that shifting how the world thinks about safety to include a Resilience-style approach is critical, and I am extremely grateful to Wojciech for taking on this role. Wojciech has been my cofounder for the last decade; anyone who knows him will understand what I mean when I say he is one of a kind. @Archang49972122 我们家是遗传的那种，我妈和我如果感冒了或者睡不好都会这样，去医院检查也没用，我每次都是忍着喝感冒药睡着，但今天其实我也偏头痛了（昨天是我妈妈），发现后脑勺/脖子放温温的热水袋真的很有用！可以试试！但貌似每个人不一样有个姐妹告诉我她可以用蒸汽眼罩缓解但我家就没什么用
