@slmshdyfan21 @NAEmmanuele I learned that in a financial literacy course. I also learned how to keep a ledger and write checks. Kids need to pick electives that they think will be useful, not replace algebra classes with other courses.

@NAEmmanuele It’s not “doing their taxes” people want them to understand. It’s the concept of taxes, interest, how to be smart with credit, how to build credit, corporate tax (what are the different ways people pay taxes), what do taxes pay for. These are the topics we want them to learn.

Where did Americans get the belief that “Schools should have taught us how to do taxes?” Perhaps I’m in the minority that I don’t do my own taxes, but… why has this become a critique? Is it specifically a critique of math course sequences? Or a need for something “useful?”

@BeGillz I’ve managed to avoid it so far, but my kid starts daycare next week and is too young to mask. I can’t afford to not work. We’re both going to get it and it makes me so angry.

@flo_mask I’ve used the envo mask since 2020, but it doesn’t stay in place when I speak (I’m a teacher). Is the flo mask any better?

My sons N99 broke at school yesterday. He called me immediately, and I picked him up(it was almost the end of the day) but the teachers offered him a surgical mask to replace his N99. He declined and got outside as fast as he could.

I'm blown away that the adults thought a baggy blue was a reasonable replacement for an N99. I'm proud af that my son knew it wasn't!

@eduleadership Teachers are starting to view unused sick days as lost compensation - because so little of what we do is fairly compensated. Can we blame them? Especially when they only get 2-3 paid days off per year. 9/9

@eduleadership If teaching was respected, fairly compensated, and had reasonable workloads, teachers abusing leave would be very rare. Instead, teachers are taking what little bits of power they have - taking sick days just b/c they have them. 8/n
