1. People aren't upset that it's not just a graphical overhaul, people are upset that the story was butchered and the writing is genuinely bad. If what was changed/overhauled was good, I wouldn't care. 2. I didn't claim Sakaguchi was the director, or writer. Producers, however, have even more creative control than directors and writers. They essentially directly oversee and are directly hands on with every aspect of the project. Your argument amounts to "Sakaguchi's role was even more important and prominent."

It's Final Fantasy 7 x Kingdom Hearts, basically. It's whimsey, childish, doesn't know how to take itself seriously and fails to do so every time it matters, it completely butchers half of its major characters, it turns the game's major villains into comedic relief characters, and it has that sanitized "HR was looking over our shoulders and they told us we need to make this game suitable for children" modern audience vibe that ruins so many modern remakes.

@Sir_Dammed @Cloudonachocobo Sakaguchi was producer of FF7, He mostly stepped aside for the directors, and writers, who are also at the helm for Remake. I understand people being upset that it isn't just a graphical overhaul, but people tend to have new concepts and ideas when they revisit their work.

Just because the turd is polished and wrapped in a nice bowtie doesn't mean it's not still a turd. Remake isn't even a fraction as good as Original when it comes to overall tone, vibe, atmosphere, characterizations, and storytelling. It's a badly written fanfic. And it's easy to see why.
