Enjoy your celebration, but please don't let those balloons loose. We often find these mylar balloons hundreds of miles from shore, still floating.

There is nothing like the night sky when viewed from a sailboat while offshore away from lights on land. Beautifully clear night at sea. (Note: Not our picture. It's really hard to get good sky pictures from a moving deck.)

We are getting a huge boost from the Gulf Stream. Speed through water is 5 knots but with the current we are sailing over 8 knots. Hitching a ride on Gulf Stream is great as long as the wind is favorable.

Bahamas to Chesapeake Day 4: Fish on! How do you like your tuna... sushi, seared steaks, Ceviche, tacos, etc? We caught so many that we can feed our crew of six fresh fish for the rest of the trip.

Night time Man Overboard Drills. Can you spot the lighted buoy we are retrieving? If you sail at night, it is good to practice this drill. It is much harder than in daylight!

Sailing is about enjoying the journey. Slow down, unwind, relax and unplug. We had a beautiful night with a gentle breeze. Would you do a 1000 mile trip at 6 knots?

Bahamas to Chesapeake day 2: After a dicey night, of big seas and heavy winds (and a few sick crewmember) we were rewarded with clear skies and gentle rolling waves. Bluewater sailing at its best!

Time to sail back to the Chesapeake from the Bahamas. The back side of this high pressure should give is some favorable winds. We'll try to update daily on this week long passage.

The water is so clear it looks like it is only a few inches deep, but it's about 15' (4.5m). I love looking at the seabed while sailing.

Question: Why do divers (snorkel and scuba) fall backwards into the water? Answer: Because if they fell forwards, they would still be in the boat!
