BREAKING: A federal watchdog POUNCES on Kash Patel, hitting his FBI with a 20 day deadline to hand over internal records amidst allegations of "excessive drinking" and long "unexplained absences." Somebody splash water on Kash's face and tell him the bad news... Using the Freedom of Information Act, watchdog group Democracy Forward has formally requested all of Patel's calendars as well as any FBI communications connected to him that contain the words "drinking," "drunk," "hungover," "alcohol," "asleep," "passed out," or "inebriated." Under FOIA, the FBI is legally obligated to provide those records unless they pertain to national security or active investigations. The request was filed earlier today in the wake of reporting from The Atlantic on Patel's alleged out of control alcoholism— “Several officials told me that Patel’s drinking has been a recurring source of concern across the government,” wrote Sarah Fitzpatrick. “They said that he is known to drink to the point of obvious intoxication.” Desperate to exert some damage control and save his job, Patel has already filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the outlet. It seems likely that the suit is intended solely for PR purposes and will quickly fizzle out. There's simply no way that Patel wants to move into the discovery phase.
