@londonette pakistan is a country not an ideology. someone could obviously disagree with the ideology underpinning the pakistani state and not be racist

Just trying to imagine this scenario. Greens out canvassing. Pakistani man approaches them. "You don't like Pakistan do you?" Greens, laughing: "no".

The Green activist actually laughs when this man tells them he’s Zionist. And when he then says “you don’t like Zionists”, the woman replies “yeah”. Honestly these people are such numpties.

Jo’s book about porn and the impact it has on our lives, and especially the lives of our young people, couldn’t be more important. Because she was vocal in saying males shouldn’t be in female safe spaces and we should pause before giving children life-altering drugs, her book talk has been cancelled.

@ZoeJardiniere @RobertJenrick Zoe, do you think these people believe literally everyone on universal credit is a scrounger that is ripping off the system? from the way they talk about it, it sounds like they think most of the people on UC are literally defrauding the state

@ClerkOhms @StatisticUrban firstly, he is just better off in a society willing to and capable of feeding orphans. secondly, i would rather everonye be worse off by less than 10 cents but still living comfortably than an orphan be dead. if he disagrees with feeding orphans he can vote accordingly

@Ttocsic1 @StatisticUrban To the man who you stole from, there is no difference. He is worse off after you've taken what's his, no matter what you use it for. If you would argue he's better off, then make that case and no force needed.

At a certain point you simply have to say to the libertarians "no, wrong." An orphaned baby does in fact have the human right not to starve to death in the street. Any form of society that can't guarantee that right is bad.

@ClerkOhms @StatisticUrban theft is not just theft. if I'm stealing from you to fund my orphan crushing machine that is not the same action as stealing from you to fund my orphan feeding machine.

@Ttocsic1 @StatisticUrban I'm trying to prevent my labor product from being stolen. What you use it for is irrelevant - your theft is theft. Your theft doesn't suddenly become virtue because you use it for something you deem good. Otherwise you could justify any theft in any amount.

@ClerkOhms @StatisticUrban you're trying to prevent the state from feeding a starving child, why would you be as justified in using force?

@StatisticUrban Then I'm equally justified in using force to prevent the theft. It is theft by every definition. More people, including governments would hesitate to use "coercive force" if they thought a proportionate (or disproportionate) violent reprisal was forthcoming.

@WoocashWombat @kaptenh_ @sleepy_devo the study only compared psychological morbidity, which can be correlated with but is not the same thing as life satisfaction or regret rates

the problem with this study, like other similar studies, is that the control group is c!s people. they're not comparing people with GD who transition with people with GD who don't transition, to see if things actually get worse specifically as a result of transitioning.
Kurt Mahlburg@k_mahlburg

Finland tracked every gender-referred adolescent in the country for up to 25 years. Their psychiatric needs didn't improve after 'gender reassignment'. They surged. A landmark peer-reviewed study just dropped. Here's what it found. 🧵

@TheNot @sleepy_devo I'm not sure whether it's the case, but it's feasible that more frequent contact with psychiatrists is part of transitioning via a gender clinic, which means the detection rate of psychological morbidities will be higher among people in the process of transitioning clinically

@sleepy_devo The deeper problem is that they used frequency of psychiatric usage as a proxy for severity of symptoms without actually looking into what that usage was. And they use specialized care as a proxy for severity when gender related care is in that category by default.

@Dr_JDietrich @sleepy_devo doesn't this table show that mtf ppl that transitioned had about the same psych contact as mtf that didn't transition and ftm ppl that did transition had less psych contact than ftm that didn't transition? in other words transitioning had little effect or a positive effect?

@WoocashWombat @kaptenh_ @sleepy_devo so if you can't ethically make the comparison then don't. there are other ways to assess the effectiveness of transitioning like regret rates and change in life satisfaction before and after transition

Woocash Wombat
Woocash Wombat@WoocashWombat·
@kaptenh_ @sleepy_devo But a control group that doesn't transition is not a control group for those that do because if they were so desperate they would transition. It's unethical to ask them to not transition for 25+ years is it not? Hence, impossible standard.

A lot of Americans on my timeline: "Europeans don’t understand why we’d lose millions in tech to save a pilot. They don’t care about their troops". That's not true. We care deeply and that’s exactly why we didn’t agree to send our people into Iran in the first place.

Always thought this was such an interesting way to view Americans. If you look at the last 120 years America has saved Europe from its own disasterous wars TWICE, then helped rebuild once it was over and took the refugees from the countrys devastated by Europes wars. Then, 60 years after that, America on its own dollar protects and defends all of Western Europe from the USSR. Just to be called snooty, stupid and worthless by the very people we saved. Interesting relationship
