@DanWMcLean Art and beauty are not a luxury. They are an essential part of the human experience. You often speak of the importance of being finally responsible. If you care about Calgary becoming a financially responsible city, pay attention to this youtu.be/7Nw6qyyrTeI

Would you support spending $12.1M for public art? We all like art (maybe not the big blue ring:) However, I opposed the approval of transferring $12.1M spending on art in #yyccc committee today as I felt it was disconnected from the realities and priorities of Calgarians

@davejtoews @YYCTKW @Matticusssss This is so tough because the bike network is terribly disconnected there are times riding on the sidewalk is the only safe option, especially when transporting or riding with children.

@YYCTKW @Matticusssss Bicycling on the sidewalk is illegal, and many riders are uncomfortable on the road. Which is not to mention the danger of having to jump onto the road from a path when forced to by an obstruction.

Our kids love to sing while riding on our eBikes with us. Today my wife was able to capture my 3 yo's song. We've traded tantrums in the car for this ⬇️ big upgrade 🥹😍 Sound on!

How many more people would cycle if your streets were this inviting? How many would leave the car at home if their choice was this easy? Don't just build infrastructure for those people already biking in your city; build it for everyone else who would love to get on their bikes.

@Trawets_Asil @Trawets_Asil The same thing happens to us! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ We keep this little portable booster in the car and have to use it when we haven't driven in a few days. It works like a charm! The only time it didn't work was when it was -30 so we had to use a trickle charger to get started.

I found my first negative about living car-lite. The car battery isn’t happy about the car not being driven long/far enough on my 1 x 2km round trip per week to recharge fully and has resulted in needing to be boosted. Any suggestions on avoiding this besides driving more?

@thukflish12 Yes, I agree. I never thought biking would lead to getting involved in local politics and advocating for better city design. Having connected separated bike paths is crucial to keep people active and safe year round.

@TuffStephanie Snow isn't dangerous on a bike, you might fall but you probably won't get hurt if you're sensible and know when to slow down. Snow and cars at the same time on a bike however are incredibly dangerous. As long as there's room I'm riding, I don't care about the snow, it's the cars.

I never thought I'd ride a bike in the winter, this is what changed my mind 🧵 I grew up in #Calgary. The winter is cold, icy, and unpredictable. I thought riding a #bike in the snow was impractical, unsafe, even crazy. Now, I feel invigorated, capable & refreshed when I ride/1

@Trawets_Asil True! I absolutely love my kids and consider it a real privilege to be home with them. I'm also highly introverted and sometimes just need a few minutes to myself. The bike is perfect for the times I can't physically get away to re-charge alone. We "get away" together 👌

@TuffStephanie Right?! People are like ‘you’re such a good mom taking your kids on your bike all day’ and all I can think is this is the only way no one talks and I am not touched. No one warned me that kids touch you all the time!

When people ask me what my best parenting advice is I always say get a cargo bike. It’s better than any stroller or vehicle for getting to playgrounds, you will engage with your children while travelling, it will last you longer as your babies grow than any other baby item!

I enjoy the beauty of the snowy season now. I engage with it rather than wish it away. The best version of myself is one where I get to bike. I'll never let #winter take that from me again. /8

Biking in the winter doesn't have to be "all or nothing". I've learned my limits by trying, changing and adapting. I now know what conditions are enjoyable for me to ride in and which ones are not. Luckily, the majority of Calgary's winter days are sunny and pleasant. /7
