I was discriminated against for being a detransitioned gender atheist today. To celebrate Trans Day of Visibility, my therapist ended our therapeutic relationship because I said I don't believe in the gender souls of her other clients. In response to her probing and off-topic questions, I disclosed that I do not believe her other clients - whom she volunteered were satisfied with their transition - were born in the wrong body. I explained that I think this is because no one is "in" a body. We are our bodies. I also said that the only way a person can be trans is to believe they are trans, just like the only way I think people are Christian is if they believe they are Christian, due to not sharing their belief in Communion with a deity. I said I view this as a difference in spiritual/religious belief. She then told me that due to her work with the trans community, she is not the right therapist for me. She then ended the session early. I've never had my atheist-materialist beliefs or detrans history be a barrier to accessing care before. I went to therapy in good faith. I was referred to her randomly by my insurance. I was not there to talk about her other clients' gender, obviously. I doubt trans clients get asked about or dropped for their thoughts about gender atheists, terfs or detransitioners. Since I won't say trans women are women, I have to to go the back of the line again, wait several more weeks, spend several more weeks explaining my life story to someone new, only to wonder what in my history, what religious or political belief of mine that the therapist might ask about several sessions in, will cause the therapeutic relationship to end without warning. I had brought up my detransition prior to being referred and in the initial session. But this was the first session she directly asked if I think her clients actually have cross sex souls, and she ended the therapeutic relationship as soon as I explained that I do not. I'm in the process of requesting records to file a complaint which is why I am leaving out MR's identity yet.
