@ameliaboone It’s basically an all star edition of Barkley so people shouldn’t be too surprised! But we should all continue to be surprised by the lack of women given entries 🙄 some things never change.
English

Another take: I think having multiple finishers out there as well as having multiple people who have gone 3 or 4 loops also sets Barkley up for this scenario. Having a strong contingent of veterans on a good weather year? We are seeing the results 🤯 #BM100
Keith@keithdunn
Sebastien Raichon began loop five, three minutes before the cutoff. For the first time ever, seven runners are on loop five at the #BM100.

@gazzellie @GoZwift Zwift has done great things supporting women in sport with the Tour de France Femmes sponsorship 🙌 I love the platform for entertainment training indoors but that is definitely icing on the cake.

These are my teammates. We are Olympic champions. Three of us tried to give birth. Two of us experienced near-death complications. One of us died. We have to, and we will do more. Tori’s death cannot and will not be in vain.

Thanks so much for the support everyone! #BM100 was incredible, conditions couldn’t have been better, and I was lucky to share miles on the trail with wonderful people. I knew from the start that training hadn’t been ideal (time out for fatigue, then injury) 1/2
English

@henryspeir I agree. I think my performance last year left a lot to be desired....though I did think that beating AT's FKT on New Hampshire 48 peaks this summer regained my street cred 😂 Not to Laz though! I'm not even on the weight list, so it'd be a 3+ year journey back. It's over for me!
English

@alyssagodesky I don't say this as knocking your amazing accomplishment or what your eventual Barkley potential may be. I fully expect that you'll get in again should you want to and would expect that you'll continue to improve. (2/2)
English

Hot take: #BM100 (Barkley Marathons) is super exclusive and full of gatekeeping. Part of it obviously stemmed from the very limited number of racers that can take part each year (like 40 this year?). I can dee how there is an appeal to something “very niche” and “very extreme” though. 🏔️🏃🏻🙌
On the other hand you have a very competitive race like Comrades (the largest and most competitive ultramarathon in the world) and arguably the greatest (imo) with a 100-year history that has a lot more diversity (helps to have 20,000 runners!) and way less gatekeeping into the sport. #Comrades is a celebration of humanity and celebrates the spirit of #ultrarunning a lot more imo. It is a race “for everyone”…a race “for the people.”
I’m think that should be celebrated a lot more 🏃🏻🙌🎉
English

@alyssagodesky For example, the unusually large number of international entrants is not typical and a one off due to COIVD. This circumstance may have very well directly impacted you this year. Again, just speculation. (2/2)
English

@henryspeir I think this actually proves my point though - Can you show progress with only one attempt? (especially now that the course is harder!)
English

@alyssagodesky Look at John Kelly's progression for example. Look at Garry Robbins... Just look at the results on Mahoney's web page... Bev and Alan Abbs. In the early years more people were indulged; now, really only the elite showing progress a likely afforded this. (1/2)
English

@henryspeir I’d be curious to see how many finishers and fun runners finish more than one on their first go. Maybe will do a deep dive today!
English

@alyssagodesky @SageCanaday To take your circumstance as an example, and I obviously don't know all the details - but from what I see, I think that had you officially finished a loop 2 under time last year and wanted in this year, you would have been given the nod. Admittedly, I'm speculating here. (2/2)
English

@henryspeir Would love to see actual data to back that up (maybe I am biased!) but to me it appears after the 2015ish time frame, yes a few favorites get their repeat years but most other never get a chance to return, *despite the same results!* (Early years, yes, most got multiple tries)
English

@alyssagodesky @SageCanaday Fair point about post-COVID, but that's something unforeseen/uncontrollable. But, if you look at historical results, it's undeniable that folks who have shown potential and demonstrated progress have been given a chance to develop. (1/2)
English

@henryspeir @SageCanaday Agreed with your second point but I don’t agree entirely with your first. Especially post-Covid with the backlog it will take even the most qualified a multi year processs to get in. Results and performance there by no means guarantee entry, as someone who has done it!
English

@alyssagodesky @SageCanaday Extreme pursuits at the highest level require extreme dedication and singular focus and Barkley isn't any different in this regard. (2/3)
English

@SageCanaday Most elite athletes can’t dedicate that kind of time and energy to a race when entry isn’t guaranteed, there’s no prize money, and you really aren’t even supposed to tell fans you’re running it (or trying to)….we have a living to support and Barkley doesn’t do it. (2/2)
English

@SageCanaday I think Barkley would have a lot more finishers if the gatekeeping didn’t require you to live/breathe Barkley for years when you’re at prime fitness to get a couple attempts at it (which it probably needs for success). (1/2)

New study finds increased tendon stiffness (which is good) in female soccer players following collagen (+ vit C) supplementation.
More evidence of potential link btwn collagen supps & connective tissue structure. Still open question, IMO, but encouraging.

@pennylope She’s disregarding a major tenant of voters: that the only thing that might irk them more than an elected official not acting for their interests is if they think said official is trying to trick them. This all feels so sneaky and voters are (hopefully) smarter than this!
