Tree was a force. He shaped the legal profession and inspired so many (me, profoundly). His trial ad program and Criminal Justice Institute set the model for lawyering skill development. At the same time, he was dedicated to his students and had their backs. Rest In Power.

One reason I say it's gross. The new DA suggests we need mass police surveillance for police accountability and exonerations. Nope.

The reality of firing progressive prosecutors and eliminating entire units that promote rehab and reentry. This will happen for data driven reform, police review, and more. Without some formal policy reversal, the work is just gone. And the interim DA appears to have no clue.

While being fired, I thought of the victims. I asked the DA what to do about a family who was flying here for a case I had. She was unaware & said she’d talk to my supervisor. I told her she had fired my supervisor. She said she’d talk to the chief. I told her she fired the chief
