@AVARY I think it’s very strong through season three, and very good (though not as good) in the final season. I do think Hader is the most talented SNL alum of all time.

I just finished Season One of 2018’s Barry, Bill Hader & Alec Berg’s excellent dramatic comedy about an ex-Marine turned contract killer who becomes entangled with the Azerbaijanian mob in Los Angeles while stumbling into an acting class run by Henry Winkler. Thoughtful and well-written, with hilarious performances all around, Barry manages to balance the comedy by finding absurd truth in the situations. Hader & Winkler won Emmys for their performances (and Hader won a well-deserved DGA award) but Anthony Carrigan’s NoHo Hank is a revelation, and Stephen Root is brilliant as Barry’s handler. There are so many insights into humanity and personal identity, and the struggle for success in the Los Angeles dream factory, that I found myself emotionally engaged well beyond expectation. The series is something of a cousin to John Cusack’s terrific Grosse Pointe Blank, and if you like that film you’ll love Barry. The question is, does it maintain its excellence through its two year Covid-19 shutdown and subsequent culture collapse for seasons 2-4?

The movie feels deceptively lighter in tone than the first one until you get to the big Jessie montage. In general, everything with Woody’s Roundup is really incredible and melancholy

@ButlerinAustin I said Fox was pressing too much in an effort to overcome his diminished athleticism (due to injury) and people called me dumb. I think it’s pretty true though. If Fox gets fully healthy I think SA is better for it. I also think he will be in the expansion draft.

I haven't had the effort to try to explain these details & nuances to the masses. Despite having the label of playing the same position, what they did on the court for the Spurs was drastically different. Basketball is way more complex than people think. And Harper is a beast

@mmoussa_s @Bryce_Estelle All three of those teams were worse than the hospital Wolves. Blazers would be even at best with the Hawks. No one said every team is a juggernaut in the West. But most of the East is still weaker. It is what it is.

@KeepDopeAlive @osimplis Yes. Injured players often press and make mistakes. Fatigue does it too. This isn’t excusing Fox’s poor play - and I think Harper should have been getting more minutes in the playoffs. But I also won’t be surprised if Fox gets healthy and looks like a different player.

@KeepDopeAlive @osimplis Very bum, he was clearly affected. And then to make up for his diminished explosiveness he pressed and made (very big) mistakes. I think SA has to roll with him next year for salary reasons, but also because the potential is there.
