Cabinet has approved plans to temporarily cut selected fuel taxes in a bid to ease rising inflation and shield consumers from global supply disruptions linked to conflict in the Middle East.
The decision, announced after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, comes as fuel price increases continue to ripple through the economy, particularly in the transport sector where operators have already raised fares.

Reserve Bank Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu said the policy will not trigger inflation or exchange rate instability, adding that authorities have adequate foreign currency reserves to meet legitimate external payment obligations.

I hope politicians have time to pick random citizens while driving or commuting once in a while. I’m having rich conversations with people i am traveling with. What they are saying about the state of affairs is quite far from what we spread as facts on this application.

Pleasing to note that Govt has intervened & re-introduced the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) buses to service intercity routes in some towns, providing relief to commuters by charging US$0.50 per trip compared to exorbitant charges by private players.

Hazel our government must be proactive. It was imminent that when the first bullet was fired at Iran on the 28th February 2027 a well meaning government should have known that fuel supply maybe disrupted .So possibilities of shortage was also around the corner.All what our government is doing including possibility of increase in April 2026 now could have been done immediately as it affects employees too.Its brutally unreasonable to expect its employees to be at work when means of transport has gone up 50% to 100%.

It seems as if some of our nurses at the two biggest hospitals, Sally Mugabe and Parirenyatwa Hospitals, have been conducting demonstrations and strikes, calling for a salary increment. It is prudent for these nurses to look at the bigger picture by focusing more on executing their mandate and continuing to be the key custodians of our health sector. As such, it is necessary for them to return to work because their matter is already a work in progress, we have a listening government that promised to review the salaries of all civil servants this coming April. Furthermore, the nurses' return to work also complies with the strict ethics that regulate the health profession. They are ethically bound to conduct acts that minimize harm, respect patients, avoid exploitation and harm, as well as uphold professional standards.

Today I was saddened to hear that a young man sat in a wheelchair at Chitungwiza Hospital for 8 hours without care and died before getting help. While nurses are on strike, patients are being left to suffer and die. Whatever the grievances, abandoning the sick is costing lives. This cannot be justified. Neglect on this scale cannot be defended, and those responsible must be held accountable and punished!

He wasted no time and directed Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube to look into the matter expeditiously for some relief. Under the aegis of the Chief Secretary, an interministerial team was set up to address the matter. This was yesterday. It has since made its recommendations which Government is now considering.
