BREAKING: The value of US data centers under construction has officially surpassed the value of office buildings under construction for the first time in history.
Data centers under construction are up+29% YoY, to a record $45.1 billion.
Meanwhile, the value of offices under construction are down -13%, to $43.5 billion, the lowest since October 2015.
Since November 2022, when ChatGPT was launched, data center construction is up +228%.
Over that same period, office construction is down -38%.

High housing costs get all the attention, but here’s what people miss. It’s also getting nearly impossible to find a safe, desirable neighborhood at any reasonable price.
Used to be you could buy an affordable home and still land a great community and decent schools. After moving 5 times in 7 years, I can tell you that’s just not reality anymore. You now have to spend an absorbent amount to get into a neighborhood that feels stable.
A lot of this ties back to the rapid shift in cultural norms and the overall mental health of society, and it’s heartbreaking to watch younger people getting squeezed from every direction financially
