Our younger son is hiking the appalachain trail this summer and is through Mount Washington. When he started in May, this part was the one thing that made me a little nervous.

Even though I have 1.5 weeks of summer left, I still (re)read these posts and enjoyed them throughly. Ok putting my head back into the sand for a while longer.

@mpershan @STEM_inTamarian They definitely teach analog clock reading in 2nd grade here. Not sure if it’s a school thing or a nys thing though.

@STEM_inTamarian I don't know of any efforts to remove clocks, but I'm interested in the history of teaching them in schools.

Does anyone know of prominent efforts to stop teaching kids how to read analog clocks in school? Come to think of it, anyone know when this practice started?

@benorlin Ok, asked about the rules. After every turn (where they both draw an X or an O), the roll a die and flip a coin. That picks the row or column that will be erased. You need to get four in a row to win. To win you have four in a row and it needs to survive the next erasure.

@benorlin After these kids did some of your Math Games, they started making up their own tic tac toe game where they flip a coin and then can make a move. Not exactly sure what's going on, but they're having fun!

Ss get to know each other, and can build on relationships that they make. (huge school and I teach 10-12th graders college level precalc)

I've never been very interested in reading about Building Thinking Classrooms. I generally think that on twitter and outside too many people exaggerate the effectiveness of methods they happen to favour. But there's so much noise on it now, I will do some more reading up.

@ddmeyer @martinsean I mean, ideally. Mainly I’m probably just not as good of a planner for lessons.

@ddmeyer @martinsean Yea totally. Children at home are a wonderful rock to be stuck against vs planning’s hard place. And then when they’re old enough that you could spend more time on school because your sleep is more normal, you’ve hopefully gained some good efficiency skills.

Experiencing a recurrence of the sickness that took me out of the classroom. Teaching an hour-long summer school lesson tomorrow and currently on hour four of prep. I could never get this ratio under control.

Allie and I met ~33 years ago playing ultimate in the Boston summer league. All these years later we are still throwing frisbees and have our 25th wedding anniversary coming up!
