$META Yes another round of layoffs to those 8,000 employees. But the average severance package is around $360,000 + 1.5 yrs of health insurance. So it’s not THAT bad…
⭕ AI & Design (Marco)@AIandDesign

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.

Important post from Meta engineer Arnav Gupta on all the AI-led layoffs. "The layoffs will continue till we learn to use AI" is his title and Gemini(!) correctly identified it as coming from, "The beatings will continue until morale improves". x.com/i/status/20518… As he explains well, AI has increased costs massively for all tech companies. Our own AI bill is skyrocketing and to add insult to injury, server prices have gone up 200-300% in a year because the AI infrastructure boom is consuming all the advanced memory chips. So these layoffs are the economic response by tech companies to control the main cost they control (people) to pay for AI and servers. Of course most are spinning it as the result of the "AI productivity miracle" but reality is more cost control than a productivity miracle, at least not yet. Now let me go back to using AI to generate even more code, so that we don't fall behind all the other guys generating massive amounts of code 😅

This New York Times piece is worth your time. Here’s what is happening, as simply as I can put it. Back in January, Trump sued the IRS, an agency he controls, demanding $10 billion over the leak of his tax returns a number of years ago. IRS lawyers did their jobs. They wrote a memo laying out the defenses that could beat the suit, including the fact that Trump filed too late. His own lawyer was in court when the leaker pleaded guilty in October 2023, more than two years before Trump sued. The Justice Department never showed up to court. Never argued back. Never used the defenses sitting on their desk. The judge got suspicious and ordered both sides to explain whether they were actually opposing each other or just colluding. The day before that brief was due, Trump dropped the suit. Same day, his Justice Department announced a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded “anti-weaponization fund.”  Trump gets a formal apology. The IRS agrees to drop any audits of him and his family, even though a 2024 Times report found a loss in an ongoing audit could cost him over $100 million. The acting Attorney General, Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, picks the five commissioners who decide who gets paid. Trump can fire any of them. Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are not ruled out. This is the most corrupt thing I’ve ever seen from an American president. Where in the hell are my Republican colleagues? nytimes.com/2026/05/19/adm…

Look at all the 🇺🇸 trade that's now happening without the Jones Act in effect. And the Jones Act fleet is still fully booked. This is all extra shipping, from Americans to Americans, that's happening just because government got out of the way.

The vibe around John Fetterman and Thomas Massie is a tell as to why our politics is broken. Voters increasingly demand that you are simply rubber stamp for your party’s leadership. You can be as hardline as they come, but if you break, even 7%, you’re a pariah. It’s insane.
Frank Luntz@FrankLuntz

John Fetterman is more popular nationwide among Republicans than among Democrats, despite voting with Democrats 93% of the time. 👉🏻 washingtonmonthly.com/2026/05/05/lea….

'Voting against the party on every single issue, you're eventually going to make too many enemies.' @JDVance grossly mischaracterizes @RepThomasMassie's record but makes it crystal clear the Trump GOP is a conformity racket & personality cult, not a party of principles.
Benny Johnson@bennyjohnson

JD Vance perfectly explains why Republican voters should NEVER support Thomas Massie: Massie sides with Democrats 1 out of every 4 votes. Massie constantly votes AGAINST Trump’s agenda. Trump won Massie’s district by nearly 40 (!!!) points. Massie betrayed his voters. The end

A RECORD $35M in outside spending has been POURED into defeating Rep. Thomas Massie in Kentucky's US House primary. Most of the money has come from the Israeli lobby. Massie's proposed AIPAC Act would require the pro-Israel lobby to register as a foreign agent. STAY TUNED.

The fact that Paxton is “ethically challenged” is, specifically, what appeals to Trump. Frankly, Trump would probably endorse Platner over Collins if left entirely to his own devices. Poor character is a feature, not a bug, for illiberal populists. This is genuinely a “both sides” problem and should be viewed through that lens.
Bill Melugin@BillMelugin_

NEW: Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) reacts to President Trump’s endorsement of Ken Paxton: “I don't understand it. He is an ethically challenged individual. John Cornyn is an outstanding senator and deserved, in my judgment, the president's support, obviously it's the president's call, but I'm disappointed that he did it.”

More money is being spent to defeat @RepThomasMassie than any other U.S. House member in history. Not because he can single-handedly change legislative outcomes—he has just one vote. But because he exposes the lies and corruption of those who hold political and financial power.

Every new car in the U.S. will be required by law to have tech that puts constant surveillance on the driver by 2027. AI in your car will determine if you're sober and fit to drive, automatically turning off the vehicle if it determines you're a danger on the road.

"Several U.S. officials and Trump associates drew the same conclusion: the president thinks the U.S. has achieved everything it can militarily and wants out of the increasingly unpopular war. He won't resume it until he has exhausted every other option. "It certainly looks like Trump doesn't want to use military force anymore and has made a decision to end the war," one U.S. source close to Trump said."

We have issued an in-house internal discussion #2026-1 for southern lower Michigan valid through 3 am EDT. An internal discussion is to highlight zones where severe weather is anticipated or expected within the next few hours. A broken line of supercells is ongoing in Wisconsin, and parts of Iowa and Illinois, and with time tonight, this broken line will congeal, and move in from west to east, arriving in west Michigan between 9-10 pm EDT. Additional cells may fire up ahead of this line, also capable of an all-hazards (wind, hail, tornadoes) risk, but given a very subtle low-level capping inversion discovered on latest balloon launch data from MSC in Three Rivers, the risk for cells ahead of the main complex is leaning less-likely at the current time. We will still continue to monitor for any storms to break through the capping inversion ahead of the storms in Wisconsin. As a reminder, a capping inversion is like a lid on the atmosphere that prevents surface based storms. We still expect storms later tonight regardless of any capping inversion. Official Discussion Text "A cluster of supercells producing tornadoes, hail 3"+, and damaging winds over 70 mph in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa will continue to move into a downstream environment in MI supportive of sustained updrafts. As time moves on, cells in Wisconsin will congeal into a line, making the primary hazard damaging winds 60-75 mph, with a secondary embedded tornado and hail risk. We expect a weather watch to be issued by the SPC in the next hour or two to account for a sustained all-hazards risk." -- Chief Meteorologist Joel Fritsma - 4/14/26 at 2335Z (7:35 pm EDT) --
