@travisbrown Programming languages are human languages. They are made from humans for the benefit of humans. The definition of "human" though shrinks when you enter in some Scala circles and if you belong to a minority you immediately feel that you're not welcome.

@travisbrown Ngl this was the main reason that made me switch from Scala to Kotlin (though I really like Kotlin now). I was disgusted and shocked by how many people in the Scala community looked the other way and asked to keep the conversation "technical".

I don't understand the hype around AI tools to write code like Copilot. I get how it's impressive technically but in terms of "improving productivity", I don't see it, or maybe for prototypes. When I'm slowed down, it's not cause I don't know how to write the code, it's cause I'm

@coffeemeetscap @alexeheath Working harder =/= working better. People don't work better when they're feeling watched. This is not how leadership in tech should be. At least not if you want to lead performant teams.

@alexeheath Everyone is reading this as micromanagement instead of increasing accountability. It’s a genius move if he rarely reads them but gets the engineers to work way harder and think everything is being watched

Going forward, all Twitter employees are now required to send an email every Friday updating Elon Musk with what they are working on and “code samples” if they are engineers, per internal memo sent out. Hardcore! theverge.com/e/23236413

Very disappointed to have been fired from Twitter today. Especially since I’ve never worked there.

@JackEllis I usually have calls with people if I'm missing too much context, it goes faster than endlessly commenting on the PR. I also make sure to transfer as much knowledge as possible to the developers so that I don't have to be there all the time and they can be more autonomous.

Senior engineers/lead developers: How the hell do you context switch between reviewing multiple PRs, everything else that comes with your job and then also working on complex projects yourself?

A lot of companies spend a considerable amount of time and resources to brand themselves as supportive of their employees. But then have no problem to apply mass lay offs. Talk is cheap.

It's sad to witness how many companies are laying off people "silently". How you get laid off says a lot of a company culture. Next time you apply for a new role keep this in mind.

@travisbrown I haven't being using Scala in a professional environment for some years now and I must say I can live with that 😄 working/having to do with people with questionable ethics was harder for me than using another language.

@_francied True! But sometimes the real challenge when looking for a new job is to find a company that doesn't have bad reputation 😂
