Kent is 100% correct here. I owe most of my (modest) success and career growth to presenting talks at local meetups — @reactsydney and @SydCSS. From there, I submitted a conference talk (@DotAllConf 18) and got accepted. I became an "authority" in the utility-first CSS world.

@audrlo Yeah the irony is that following count does not equal your skills whatever industry you're in. People sadly put way too much emphasis on likes and views and followers.

I was at 200 followers. A creator I looked up to was at 1,400. I sent a heartfelt message to him. He ignored it. Now? He's still at 1,400. I'm at 12,000 and he begs me for RTs. Don't be stingy. Build those connections.
